Rotational Lateral Expander Device

Rotational Lateral Expander Device

US Patent:
6354995, Mar 12, 2002
Filed:
Apr 24, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/065767
Inventors:
Moshe Hoftman - Calabasas CA 91302
Sol Weiss - Reseda CA 93063
International Classification:
A61B 132
US Classification:
600219, 600224
Abstract:
A rotating and lateral expansion device with a relative lateral motion of at least two to four blades. Blades are arranged initially such that their effective forcing planes are substantially axially and facially parallel to each other in a closed position. A lateral motion forcing mechanism is operatively attached to a base plate assembly such that activation of the lateral motion forcing mechanism forces a rotation and sliding action in the base plate assembly which translates into forcing a lateral expansion of a number of the blades. The device permits an examiner to increase the effective diameter of an orifice, such as the vagina, of an examinee.

Surgical Instrument

US Patent:
6394950, May 28, 2002
Filed:
Oct 15, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/978604
Inventors:
Sol Weiss - Reseda CA 91335
International Classification:
A61B 132
US Classification:
600205, 600222, 600223, 600210, 600220
Abstract:
A surgical instrument having an upper and a lower blade member, each of the members having a main generally elongated blade portion, each of the members having spaced upstanding lateral sidewalls, the upper blade member being vertically, movable with respect to the lower blade member to selectively open and close the spacing between the blade members. A light cone may be provided in the upper blade member for connection of an illuminating device for providing light to the surgeons work area. A port may also be provided in the upper blade member for connecting a suction tube thereto for removing fluids and the like during use of the instrument.

Attachment Devices For Surgical Instruments

Attachment Devices For Surgical Instruments

US Patent:
2005008, Apr 21, 2005
Filed:
Dec 8, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/904998
Inventors:
Sol Weiss - Reseda CA, US
International Classification:
A61B001/32
US Classification:
600221000
Abstract:
Provided is an apparatus for insertion into a port of a speculum. The apparatus has an insertion member that includes one or more sloped elements on (e.g., protruding from) its outer surface, for creating a secure fit (e.g., a friction fit or a snap fit) with the inner surface of the port. In certain representative embodiments, the sloped element(s) slope significantly more gradually from the distal end of the male insertion member than from its proximal end, and more preferably have a sudden drop off near their proximal ends.

Sublingual Use Of Inhibitors In The Biosynthesis Of Cholesterol

Sublingual Use Of Inhibitors In The Biosynthesis Of Cholesterol

US Patent:
2003010, May 29, 2003
Filed:
Jun 4, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/160441
Inventors:
Sol Weiss - Reseda CA, US
International Classification:
A61K038/17, A61K031/56, A61K031/401, A61K031/366, A61K031/225
US Classification:
514/012000, 514/171000, 514/423000, 514/356000, 514/460000, 514/548000
Abstract:
The present invention is a method introducing the sublingual placement of statin drugs whose names include: Fluvastatin, Atorvastatin, Lovastatin, Pravastatin and Simvastatin for heart related and other vascular emergencies. Current research challenges are developing many new derivatives and new classes of these HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, which alter the biosynthesis of cholesterol. This method applies these medications (statin drugs) in a form such as sublingual (under the tongue) for rapid absorption and immediate high blood levels similar to that of nitroglycerin. The advantage of this method is that it will benefit those who are stricken with strokes and heart attacks by therefore saving lives and costs of medical care.

Attachable Surgical Accessory Instrument

Attachable Surgical Accessory Instrument

US Patent:
2002017, Nov 28, 2002
Filed:
Apr 13, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/122450
Inventors:
Sol Weiss - Reseda CA, US
International Classification:
A61B017/00
US Classification:
606/001000, 606/205000
Abstract:
A surgical assisting instrument and device having an elongated rectangular u-shaped body with fasteners extending outward therefrom. These fasteners can be of any number and mounted on the top or sides of the body. The body is affixed vertically on the long handle of a tenaculum or other similar elongated handles of surgical clasping instruments. This permits such surgical clasping devices to be anchored or braced onto a fixed surgical device to provide the surgeon with auxiliary clasping and holding assistance.
