Abstract:
An access client hosted by a mobile computing device accesses carrier networks using wireless access points and uses an access point database to identify access points and carrier networks. The access client uses methods and tokens databases to access carrier networks. The access client updates the databases using an access server when coupled to a carrier network. The access client transmits user information to the carrier network, which uses the information to perform authenticate and generate session data. The carrier network transmits session data to the access server, which uses session data to generate billing information. The access client also collects network performance data for access points and carrier networks, and transmits network performance data to the access server. The access server aggregates network performance data from access clients to generate quality of service reports. The access client includes detection and evaluation features for selecting access points.

A method and apparatus for accessing wireless carrier networks by mobile computing devices. An access client hosted by a mobile computing device accesses carrier networks using wireless access points. The access client uses an access point database to identify access points and carrier networks. The access client uses a methods database and a tokens database to access the carrier networks. The access client updates the access point database, the methods database, and the token database using an access server when the access client is operably coupled to a carrier network. The access client transmits user information to the carrier network. The carrier network uses the user information to authenticate the user and to generate session data while the user is accessing the carrier network. The carrier network transmits the session data to the access server. The access server uses the session data to generate billing information for the user.

Apparatus, methods and systems for sharing and distributing electronic content using a mobile device are presented. In more specific terms, a viral marketing-based, discounted referral and recommendation model by which users may forward electronic content to other users in disclosed. In one aspect, a method of distributing electronic media content over a network includes displaying a discounted offer on a first device that has been transmitted from another device for which the electronic media content has been purchased. A notification is then received, and upon receiving an acceptance from the first device, the electronic media content is transmitted to the device.
