Self-Adjusting Carrying Idler Assembly

US Patent:
6390287, May 21, 2002
Filed:
Jun 10, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/329812
Inventors:
Shirley D. Riffe - Crab Orchard WV
Assignee:
The Robbins Company - Solon OH
International Classification:
B65G 3910
US Classification:
198830, 198806, 19881003
Abstract:
A conveyor belt idler support includes a fixed frame having support idlers for a return path of the belt. A movable frame is mounted on the fixed frame and is tiltable to support the carrying portion of the belt with a varying degree of tilt to allow the belt extend in a curved path around corners. The fixed frame has a projecting bracket carrying support rollers which extends into a hollow box portion at the center of the movable frame adjacent the middle to support most of the load on the movable frame. The movable frame has a center section and outwardly and upwardly sloping side sections each carrying idlers to define a trough for the belt. At one side, the movable frame carries a upwardly extending guide roller to limit lateral movement of the belt and allow the belt to apply a lateral force to the movable frame to tilt it about the support roller. At the other side is a fixed rigid link pivotally secured to both the support frame and the movable frame which is rotatable as the movable frame moves sideward to cause the frame to tilt in a controlled manner to achieve the desired tilt angle for the belt.

Vertical Belt Conveyor System

US Patent:
5975283, Nov 2, 1999
Filed:
May 2, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/642136
Inventors:
Shirley D. Riffe - Crab Orchard WV
Assignee:
Long-Airdox Company - Blacksburg VA
International Classification:
B65G 1508
US Classification:
198607
Abstract:
An endless belt conveyor including an independently supported first support pulley vertically and laterally displaced from a second support pulley. An endless belt including bulk material carrying compartments entrained around the first and second support pulleys and which is engaged by the full width of said support pulleys. The endless belt includes a radius of curvature near the top of the vertical run of a predetermined size such that the bulk material carried in the endless belt is not expel due to centrifugal force. A portion of the endless belt entrained over the first support pulley has a radius of curvature of a predetermined size such that the material carried in the endless belt is expelled due to centrifugal force.

Load Sensitive Conveyor Training Apparatus

US Patent:
5341920, Aug 30, 1994
Filed:
May 12, 1993
Appl. No.:
8/060893
Inventors:
Shirley D. Riffe - Crab Orchard WV
Assignee:
Long-Airdox Company - Oak Hill WV
International Classification:
B65G 1508
US Classification:
198825
Abstract:
An improved belt supporting and guiding apparatus enabling belt travel in other than a linear path wherein there is a base frame and a second frame mounted on the base frame; the second frame has center, left and right portions with surfaces which together define a belt support surface delimiting a concavity that is shaped other than as a constant arc of a circle so that rotation of the second frame on mounting rollers is about an instant center whose spatial location changes constantly.

Advancing Tailpiece

US Patent:
6308819, Oct 30, 2001
Filed:
Mar 3, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/811431
Inventors:
Shirley Donnelly Riffe - Crab Orchard WV
Assignee:
Long-Airdox Company - Blacksburg VA
International Classification:
B65G 1508, B65G 2114
US Classification:
198589
Abstract:
The invention relates to an advancing tailpiece of a continuous belt conveyor system used in the mining industry. The advancing tailpiece is supported by telescopic booms extending from a support structure rising from the base of a tow car. The telescoping booms are pivotally connected to the support structure and the advancing tailpiece. The advancing tailpiece further includes a mechanical arm pivotally connected to the advancing tailpiece and having a telescopic boom. Carrying idler assemblies are loaded on the mechanical arm which is used to position the carrying idler assembly for attachment to an intermediate conveyor section of the continuous belt conveyor.
