Method For Electrocoagulation Of Liquids

US Patent:
6488835, Dec 3, 2002
Filed:
Aug 24, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/644513
Inventors:
Scott Wade Powell - Aurora CO 80015-5820
International Classification:
C02F 1461
US Classification:
205744, 205757
Abstract:
An electrocoagulation treatment method wherein voltage is applied to selected reaction plates to create an electrical field within the electrocoagulation chamber. The plates are arranged vertically with respect to the chamber which induces a vertical flow of liquid through a device. Gases formed in the electrocoagulation process are allowed to rise to the top of the liquid line and can be vented to the atmosphere. The voltage and amperage of the electrical field within the reaction chamber may be adjusted as necessary by placing selected reaction plates in electrical contact with the voltage source. The incoming line voltage itself may be kept at a constant which eliminates the need for a separate transformer. The reaction plates are easily removed from the reaction chamber and may be replaced individually or as a set.

Method And Apparatus For Electrocoagulation Of Liquids

US Patent:
8048279, Nov 1, 2011
Filed:
Oct 22, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/255903
Inventors:
Scott Wade Powell - Centennial CO, US
John Dennis Rasmussen - Cove OR, US
International Classification:
C25B 9/00, C02F 1/00, C02F 1/463
US Classification:
204673, 204194, 204242, 205695, 205742
Abstract:
An electrocoagulation treatment device includes a plurality of spaced reaction plates disposed within a reaction chamber. A voltage is applied to selected reaction plates to create an electrical field within the electrocoagulation chamber. The plates are arranged vertically which induces a vertical flow of liquid through a device. The voltage and amperage of the electrical field chamber may be adjusted by placing selected reaction plates in electrical contact with the voltage source. One embodiment is adapted for treatment of fluid containing soluble or particulate organic compounds recalcitrant to biodegradation, including nitrogenous contaminants, such as ammonia or an ammonium compounds. The device and method of the invention include the use of an oxidizing agent such as sodium hypochlorite or hydrogen peroxide to aid in the removal of organic contaminants.

Method And Apparatus For Separation Of Water From Petroleum Products In An Electrocoagulation Process

US Patent:
7758742, Jul 20, 2010
Filed:
Aug 4, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/197893
Inventors:
Scott Wade Powell - Centennial CO, US
International Classification:
C02F 1/00, C02F 1/463
US Classification:
205742, 205695
The device includes various embodiments adapted for use as a large industrial unit, a portable unit or for use within the home. The voltage and amperage of the electrical field chamber may be adjusted by placing selected reaction plates in electrical contact with the voltage source. One embodiment is especially adapted for treatment of oil slop to remove water from the oil, and for treatment of seawater to desalinate the same.

System For Treatment Of Contaminated Liquid

US Patent:
8192617, Jun 5, 2012
Filed:
Apr 25, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/093250
Inventors:
Scott W. Powell - Aurora CO, US
International Classification:
C02F 3/00
US Classification:
210150, 210151, 210197, 210220, 210299, 210312, 210314, 210332
Abstract:
Treatment of contaminated liquid is provided including an integrated ultra-filtration and clarification apparatus. Clarification of liquid occurs in a gap between a casing and a tank of the apparatus. Solids settle and aggregate in the bottom of the tank. The solids act as a secondary filter prior to contact of the liquid with the ultra-filtration filters. Clarified liquid is drawn through the ultra-filtration filters. An upstream electrocoagulation unit and a downstream reverse osmosis unit may be included in combination. Electrocoagulation can occur in the tank by reaction plates mounted within the tank. One embodiment includes dual integrated ultra-filtration and clarifier apparatuses and corresponding electrocoagulation units.

Apparatus For Electrocoagulation Of Liquids

US Patent:
6139710, Oct 31, 2000
Filed:
Feb 26, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/259246
Inventors:
Scott Wade Powell - Aurora CO
International Classification:
B03C 502, B04B 510, C02F 140, C02F 1100
US Classification:
204673
Abstract:
An electrocoagulation treatment device includes a plurality of spaced reaction plates disposed within a reaction chamber. A voltage is applied to selected reaction plates to create an electrical field within the electrocoagulation chamber. The plates are arranged vertically with respect to the chamber which induces a vertical flow of liquid through a device. Gases formed in the electrocoagulation process are allowed to rise to the top of the liquid line and can be vented to the atmosphere. The solids which precipitate out of the liquid stream are carried by the liquid stream to secondary separation. Any remaining solids can be removed as sludge through a drain in the bottom of the device. A foam cover is provided to isolate the electrical connections of the plates from moisture. The top cover is provided to isolate the chamber for safety purposes.
