Railway Car Truck With A Rocker Seat

Railway Car Truck With A Rocker Seat

US Patent:
6672224, Jan 6, 2004
Filed:
Mar 18, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/100576
Inventors:
Hans B. Weber - Rotonda West FL
Scott R. Duncan - Lake Zurich IL
Assignee:
ASF-Keystone, Inc. - Granite City IL
International Classification:
B61F 500
US Classification:
105187, 105208, 1052081
Abstract:
A railway car truck having a pair of side frames and a bolster and a transom extending transversely between the side frames. A respective rocker seat is rigidly and permanently attached to each end of the transom and is pivotally supported on a rocker bar that is supported by the tension member of a sideframe. The pivotal connection between the rocker seat and the rocker bar disposes the transom perpendicular to the side frame and provides pivotal movement of the side frame with respect to the transom. The railway car truck is assembled by inserting the ends of the bolster and transom into the window of a side frame, and then inserting the rocker bar through a passageway in the side frame to a position under the rocker seat and on the bottom tension member of the side frame. Springs are then inserted between the transom and the bolster such that the bolster is resiliently supported on the side frame.

Friction Wedge For A Railroad Car Truck Having A Replaceable Wear Member

Friction Wedge For A Railroad Car Truck Having A Replaceable Wear Member

US Patent:
6374749, Apr 23, 2002
Filed:
Oct 7, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/414368
Inventors:
Scott R. Duncan - Lake Zurich IL
Robert M. Irving - Bartlett IL
Valerian S. Skawinski - Elmhurst IL
Assignee:
NACO, Inc. - Lombard IL
International Classification:
B61F 500
US Classification:
1051985
Abstract:
A friction wedge for a railroad car truck including a body and a wear member. The body includes a front face having a pocket adapted to removably receive the wear member. The pocket includes a bottom wall and a peripheral side wall extending outwardly from the bottom wall. The wear member includes a wear pad having a first wall and a connector member such as an adhesive layer attached to the first wall. The connector member removably attaches the first wall of the wear pad to the body. The peripheral side wall of the pocket extends around a side wall of the wear pad and prevents lateral sliding movement of the pad member with respect to the bottom wall of the pocket. The wear pad includes a second wall that is adapted to slidably engage the side frame of a railroad car truck to provide dampened movement of the bolster of the truck. The wear pad may be easily removed from the pocket when worn and replaced with a new wear pad while the body may be reused.

Pivot Pin And Retention Clip Assembly For A Railroad Car Coupler

Pivot Pin And Retention Clip Assembly For A Railroad Car Coupler

US Patent:
6062406, May 16, 2000
Filed:
Mar 26, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/048523
Inventors:
Scott R. Duncan - Lake Zurich IL
Assignee:
NACO, Inc. - Downers Grove IL
International Classification:
B61G 700
US Classification:
213156
Abstract:
A coupler pivot pin and retention clip assembly for a railroad car coupler adapted to pivotally connect a knuckle of the railroad car coupler to a body of the railroad car coupler. The pivot pin assembly includes a pivot pin having an elongate shank having a head at one end and a groove formed in the shank at a second end. A circular retention clip member is adapted to be selectively retained within the groove and to the shank to prevent removal of the pivot pin from the coupler. The retention clip member includes a generally circular band having a respective tab extending generally radially outwardly from each end of the band. The band is resiliently flexible from a relaxed position, wherein the band is adapted to be retained in the groove, to an expanded position, wherein the band has an enlarged diameter allowing the band to be removed from the groove and the pivot pin so that the pivot pin may be removed from the coupler, by manually pressing the first and second tabs together.
