Method And Apparatus For Digitally Watermarking Images Created With A Mobile Imaging Device

US Patent:
2004000, Jan 8, 2004
Filed:
Jun 19, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/600168
Inventors:
Scott Tillotson - North Kingstown RI, US
Assignee:
Spectra Systems Corporation
International Classification:
G06K009/00
US Classification:
382/100000
Abstract:
A digital watermarking system in accordance with these teachings includes a mobile device having a image capture sub-system for generating digital data representative of an image. Information related to the image at the time of imaging is used as input information for the digital watermarking software. The related information may be stored separately from the image, and subsequently included in the image by remote processing. Appropriate components are included in the device for imaging, processing and communicating with other apparatus. Digitally watermarked images can be stored in the mobile device, or transferred through the wireless link to a data communications network, such as the Internet. These teachings also pertain to methods for using the mobile device and related systems.

Authentication Using A Digital Watermark

US Patent:
2001003, Nov 1, 2001
Filed:
Mar 8, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/801445
Inventors:
Nabil Lawandy - North Kingstown RI, US
Scott Tillotson - North Kingstown RI, US
International Classification:
H04L009/00
US Classification:
713/176000
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for identifying an object include encoding physical attributes of an object where the encoded information is utilized as at least one element for composing a digital watermark for the object. In another embodiment the physical attributes of an object are utilized as a key for accessing information included in a digital watermark for the object. In a further embodiment, a digital watermark is incorporated into a bar code. As another aspect of this embodiment, information may be encoded into the digital watermark of the barcode and may be decoded or otherwise retrieved by the use of a key. The digitally watermarked bar code may function in a conventional manner or may also include a “pass key” to allow reading of the bar code itself.
