Interests:
Created this blog to offset my daily contributions to www.700wlw.com and www.thelotd.com. It also served as a back up in case events such as the mass cuts that occurred 1/20/09 took place.
Honor & Awards:
Several AP awards for Sportscasting and assembling 700WLW's entry for Outstanding Sports Operation; Also for Best Feature Reporting and Writing. Also several regional RTNDA (Edward R. Murrow Awards) for Sports Reporting and Writing. Also several plaques for MCing the Clermont County Special Olympics golf tournament for six years with Judge Jim Shriver.
Awards:
Ohio Associated Press Best Regularly Scheduled Sports
Ohio Associated Press
I won this award for my work as the morning sports anchor on 700 WLW in 1997 and 1998. In 1999, 2003 and 2008 I won second place. In 2002 and 2004 I made honorable mention. I worked this shift from 1992- 1/20/09. We didn't submit for awards prior to '97. The years I didn't win, I still worked hard nonetheless.
RTNDA (Radio and Televison News Director's Association) awards a/k/a "Edward R. Murrow's"
RTNDA
The regional Edward R. Murrow awards covered stations in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Michigan, so it was quite an honor to be acknowledged by this group. I won in 1998, 1999 and 2001 for sports reporting and in 2002 and 2005 for writing.
Ohio Associated Press Best Broadcast Writing
Ohio Associated Press
In addition to writing all of my sportscasts, commercials and various presentations, I also wrote a weekly featured and performed it on the air on Friday mornings. It was called the "Turkey of the Week" and featured someone or thing that was particularly absurd that week in sports. Some of these were also the basis of my RTNDA writing awards. From the Ohio AP, I won first place in 2008 and second in 2004.
Ohio Associated Press Best Sports Operation
Ohio Associated Press
One of my duties I took after a few years at 700WLW was compiling our information and putting together a presentation for best sports operation in Ohio. Since those plaques belong to Clear Channel, they remain on a wall somewhere on the sixth floor of 8044 Montgomery Road. Upon my departure as part of a massive company-wide reduction in force on 1/20/09, I was only allowed to retrieve my personal awards. The group awards were what I was most proud of though and from memory (since I'm not looking at them on the wall anymore) we won seven from when I started putting them together in 1997. One of the few bright moments related to my leaving was that the entry I had prepared the week prior won for 2009. I know who did the work and I have that.
Ohio Excellence in Journalism
The Press Club of Cleveland
This was an award for second place. Oddly, the same year the Ohio Associated Press gave me first place, I was second in Cleveland. Go figure.
Clermont County Special Olympics service award
Clermont County Special Olympics
For five years, between 2003-2007, I participated in the Clermont County Special Olympics golf outing and hosted the post-tournament banquet. They were great people and kind enough to give me several plaques. It's a great organization.
