Method And Apparatus For Applying A Protective Oral Care Composition

US Patent:
2013029, Nov 7, 2013
Filed:
Jul 5, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/935990
Inventors:
Salim A. Nathoo - Piscataway NJ, US
Assignee:
ORAL HEALTH CLINICAL SERVICES, LLC - Piscataway NJ
International Classification:
A61C 19/06, A61C 7/28
US Classification:
433216, 4332171
Abstract:
Compositions and methods for whitening human teeth containing peroxide and a hydroperoxidase inhibitor. The compositions exhibit superior teeth whitening effects while also retaining a greater amount of peroxide compared to compositions not containing the hydroperoxidase inhibitors. The compositions may be formulated in a hydrocarbon humectant free vehicle comprising a peroxide compound, a hydroperoxidase inhibitor, a chelating agent, an anti-oxidizing agent, and a thickening agent. The compositions may further include compounds to reduce oxidative stress. Also disclosed is a delivery system including a flexible film, an oral care composition that contacts the teeth, an adhesive material that generally contacts the soft tissues, and a physical barrier that prevents contact between the oral care composition and the adhesive material.

Tooth Whitening Hydrogels

US Patent:
7833539, Nov 16, 2010
Filed:
Jun 7, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/861914
Inventors:
Salim A. Nathoo - Piscataway NJ, US
Assignee:
Oral Health Clinical Services, LLC - Piscataway NJ
International Classification:
A61K 6/00, A61K 8/00, A61K 8/02, A61K 8/22
US Classification:
424401, 424 49, 424 52, 424 53, 424601, 424613, 433215, 433216, 4332171
Abstract:
This invention relates generally to compositions for whitening human teeth, and more particularly, to compositions that do not contain hydrocarbon humectants and which, when applied onto the surface of teeth act to whiten without damage to tooth surfaces. They do contain a hydrogel, defined as a gel that does not contain a hydrocarbon humectant. A hydrocarbon humectant is defined as a carbon, hydrogen and oxygen compound which is used to prevent the oral care composition from hardening upon exposure to air or a carbon, hydrogen and oxygen compound which is used as a carrier for ingredients of an oral care composition. The tooth whitening of the present invention is free of a humectant and contains a peroxide, in combination with a mixed surfactant system, a mixed metal chelating system of a peptilytic condensed pyrophosphate chelating agent, an organic chelating agent, and a metal precipitating chelating agent, a catalase inhibiting compound and a non-ionic polyoxyethylene polyoxypropylene block copolymers surfactant thickening agent as hereinafter defined. As will be illustrated, the oral compositions of the present invention are in the form of gels that exhibit better whitening effect, do not cause dental hypersensitivity and can be used both in the dental office and in-home brushing or splint applications.

US Classification:
424 49
Abstract:
A dental composition is produced from a dilatant silicone polymer composition by dispersing a bioactive component in the polymer composition. The dental composition is shaped and pressed against the teeth and gum surfaces and allowed to remain in place for a period of time sufficient to release the active component to the tooth and gums. The dilatant rheological properties enable the dental composition to be pushed under the gingival flap to remove food particles and treat tooth and gum surfaces below the gum line. The composition is sufficiently plastic to be easily removed from the teeth without pieces breaking and adhering to tooth surfaces.
