Abstract:
A hand orthosis includes a body having an oblate spheroid shape and an ellipsoidal surface. The hand orthosis is positioned against the palm of a patients hand for separating a patients fingers and thumb from contacting each other. A plurality of finger grooves are indented in substantially parallel and spaced apart configuration across the ellipsoidal surface. A first and a second angled groove is positioned on opposed sides of the plurality of finger grooves for placement of either thumb therein. The hand orthosis is fastened within the patients palm by means for fastening to maintain separation of the fingers and thumb from each other for extended periods of time. A method of utilizing the hand orthosis during a medical treatment procedure is also disclosed.
