Philosophy:
The practice of psychiatry has changed tremendously in the last 20 years, as our knowledge of neuroanatomy and neurochemistry has grown. Psychiatrists must distinguish themselves as accurate diagnosticians, and provide expert psychopharmacological treatment for their patients. Psychiatric diagnosis has long been misunderstood and those who suffer from mental illness have, unfortunately, been stigmatized. It is critical that we eradicate the shame and the confusion surrounding mental illness.
