Vehicle Seat For Reducing The Risk Of Spinal And Head Injuries Of Personnel In Combat Vehicles

US Patent:
8016350, Sep 13, 2011
Filed:
Apr 17, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/450852
Inventors:
Ronald P. Dellanno - Bloomfield NJ, US
International Classification:
B60N 2/427, B60N 21/00, A47C 7/14, A47C 1/00
US Classification:
29721612, 29721613, 2972849, 29734421
Abstract:
A vehicle seat for use in military vehicles provides increased protection for a helmeted or unhelmeted combatant soldier. The seat includes a seat portion having a layer of high impact energy absorbing material. A back support portion adjoined to the rear of the seat portion extends upwardly for supporting the rearward side of the seated soldier. The back portion has a lower section for supporting the thorax and lower back, and two overlying sections which are positionable for supporting and restraining rearward movement of the helmeted or unhelmeted head and the neck. The overlying sections are moveable toward and away from the soldier and together define a surface and contour which interacts with the seated soldier during rear end impact to maintain the pre-collision shape of the soldier's supported spinal curves, to aid in avoidance of whiplash and similar injuries. Swivelable side portions actuated by sensors flank the sides of the soldier for further protection.

Forward Head Posture Correction Collar

US Patent:
8038635, Oct 18, 2011
Filed:
Dec 16, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/316805
Inventors:
Ronald P. Dellanno - Bloomfield NJ, US
International Classification:
A61F 5/24, A61F 5/00, A61B 19/00
US Classification:
602 18, 602 5, 602 12, 602 17, 602 19, 602 33, 602 36, 128 971, 128869, 606237, 606241
Abstract:
A forward head position correction collar is provided which in combination includes a shoulder collar assembly, a chin mastoid piece for engaging and positioning the head of a wearer of the collar; and interconnecting means for interconnecting the chin piece to the collar assembly as to enable the chin piece to be manually and preferably incrementally adjustable with respect to the shoulder collar assembly in a Z-direction to thereby adjust the supported head of the wearer from the forward head position to an increasingly corrected position. The interconnecting means is further adapted for displacing the chin-mastoid piece in a vertical direction with respect to the shoulder collar assembly simultaneously with and proportional to the incremental adjustment of the chin-mastoid piece along the Z-axis. The proportional vertical displacement with respect to the z axis displacement for the chin-mastoid support piece is that yielded by a point moving at about a 5 to 25 degree slope with respect to the horizontal Z-axis. The correction collar may further include a lordosis correction assembly secured to the rear of the collar and engageable with the rear of the wearer for applying corrective forces to at least one or more of the cervical vertebrae of the wearer.

Devices For Alleviating Back Strain And Back Pain

US Patent:
7819831, Oct 26, 2010
Filed:
Feb 27, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/363552
Inventors:
Ronald P. Dellanno - Bloomfield NJ, US
International Classification:
A61F 5/37, A61G 1/00
US Classification:
602 19, 128870, 128875, 224158, 224160, 450 2, 450 96
Abstract:
A device for relieving back strain for a user who is supporting a substantial weight which is off the user's vertical body axis at his or her front side. The device alleviates the aforementioned difficulties by utilizing the otherwise detrimental forces generated by the off-axis weight to press a rigid plate behind and adjacent to the spine of the device user against the user's spine. This rigid plate is preferably contoured to mirror the shape of the human spine. The device in one embodiment is used as a baby carrier. In another it is used with an abdominal support during pregnancy. In a third embodiment it provides support for the breasts of large breasted women.

Apparatus For Preventing Whiplash

US Patent:
5181763, Jan 26, 1993
Filed:
Oct 7, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/771827
Inventors:
Ronald P. Dellanno - Bloomfield NJ
Quentin E. Gualtier - North Caldwell NJ
International Classification:
A47C 736
US Classification:
297391
Abstract:
An apparatus for preventing whiplash related injuries has a support member adjustably supported within the seat of a vehicle, and adapted to be moved upwardly or downwardly relative to a passenger in the seat. A frame is supported on the support member and located behind the cranium and cervical spine of the passenger. A layer of resilient material is supported on the frame, and defines a supporting surface. The supporting surface defines a contour that corresponds to the posterior contour of the passenger's cranium and cervical spine. The supporting surface is therefore adapted to simultaneously decelerate the cranium and cervical spine during a vehicle collision and, thus, prevent whiplash related injuries to the passenger.
