Systems For Comparing And Ranking A Plurality Of Signal Inputs

US Patent:
4255740, Mar 10, 1981
Filed:
Jun 18, 1979
Appl. No.:
6/049596
Inventors:
Ronald G. Ferrie - Pittsburgh PA
Assignee:
RCA Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
G06F 702, H04B 106
US Classification:
3401462
Abstract:
A system which selects the highest quality signal from similar signals includes a signal quality detector for each of the signals and a comparator. Each detector provides an output level indicative of the quality of the signal and these signals indicative of the quality of the signal are sequentially provided to a first input of the comparator. The comparator is responsive to signal levels indicating a higher quality signal level than that of a reference level applied to a second input of the comparator for providing that signal out of the selecting system and providing a new reference signal level indicative of the higher quality signal to the second input of the comparator. The system also ranks the input signals according to their quality by repeating the comparison with the successively highest quality signal removed from the comparison.

Received Signal Selecting System With Priority Control

US Patent:
4057761, Nov 8, 1977
Filed:
Dec 30, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/645338
Inventors:
Donald Duane Harbert - Prosperity PA
Ronald Gilbert Ferrie - Pittsburgh PA
Assignee:
RCA Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
H04B 110
US Classification:
328154
Abstract:
A system, which selects the most desired signal from similar signals provided by two or more radio receivers, includes a separate arrangement of a signal quality detector, a signal selection gate, and a comparison circuit for each of the similar signals. Each detector provides an output signal level indicative of the quality of the particular one of the similar signals to which it is responsive. The comparison circuits determine from the various detector output signal levels the better signal among the similar signals and provide a control signal to the selection gate in the arrangement including the detector indicating the better signal. The selection gate in the arrangement responsive to the better signal in response to the control signal passes the better signal out of the system. A priority bus is common to all of the above-mentioned arrangements responsive to the respective similar signals. An activity signal is provided on the bus in response to the presence of a control signal to one of the selection gates.
