3959337, May 25, 1976
Filed:
Apr 15, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/568360
Inventors:
Ronald D. Bushick - Glen Mills PA
Howard P. Angstadt - Media PA
Assignee:
Sun Ventures, Inc. - Philadelphia PA
International Classification:
C07C12014
US Classification:
260465C
Abstract:
An ammoxidation process for preparing nitriles from m- and p-xylene whereby the formation of carbon oxides is held to a minimum which comprises reacting the xylene and ammonia at a temperature of from about 375. degree. C. to about 500. degree. C. and in the presence of added oxygen, the molar ratio of ammonia to xylene being about 3:1 or less, the molar ratio of oxygen to xylene being about 3:1 or less, the volume percent concentration of the feed being preferably about 3% to 10% hydrocarbon, 7% to 20% ammonia, and 10% to 20% oxygen, and the catalyst for said reaction comprising at least about 1 to 10% by weight of a vanadium bronze supported on. alpha. -alumina.

Ammoxidation Process For Making Dicyanonaphthalene

Ammoxidation Process For Making Dicyanonaphthalene

US Patent:
4013705, Mar 22, 1977
Filed:
Mar 9, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/665342
Inventors:
Ronald D. Bushick - Glen Mills PA
Assignee:
Suntech, Inc. - St. Davids PA
International Classification:
C07C12014, C07C12162
US Classification:
260465C
Abstract:
In the process of making dicyanonaphthalene by reacting a di-lower alkylnaphthalene, ammonia and oxygen under ammoxidation conditions, the improvement which comprises carrying out said ammoxidation in the presence of a supported alkali-metal vanadium bronze catalyst, promoted with iron and with a molar ratio of ammonia to dialkylnaphthalene of from at least about 10:1 to about 30:1. The invention also embodies the iron promoted catalyst.

Ronald D. Bushick - Glen Mills PA
Assignee:
Sun Ventures, Inc. - Radnor PA
International Classification:
C07C12014
US Classification:
260465C
Abstract:
In an ammoxidation process where reactant gases comprised of a lower alkyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon, oxygen, and ammonia are passed over an ammoxidation catalyst in a fixed or fluidized bed system, the improvement of reducing combustion of hydrocarbon and ammonia and achieving a more favorable product distribution by distributing a stream containing reactant oxygen throughout the catalyst bed.
