Systems And Methods For An Automated Personalized Dictionary Generator For Portable Devices

US Patent:
2013019, Aug 1, 2013
Filed:
Feb 20, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/772139
Inventors:
Zi Corporation Of Canada, Inc. - Calgary, CA
Roland Emlyn WILLIAMS - Martinez CA, US
William James TEMPLETON-STEADMAN - Herts, GB
Assignee:
ZI CORPORATION OF CANADA, INC. - Calgary
International Classification:
G06F 17/27
US Classification:
704 10
Abstract:
A system and method for automated dictionary population is provided to facilitate the entry of textual material in dictionaries for enhancing word prediction. The automated dictionary population system is useful in association with a mobile device including at least one dictionary which includes entries. The device receives a communication which is parsed and textual data extracted. The text is compared to the entries of the dictionaries to identify new words. Statistical information for the parsed words, including word usage frequency, recency, or likelihood of use, is generated. Profanities may be processed by identifying profanities, modifying the profanities, and asking the user to provide feedback. Phrases are identified by phrase markers. Lastly, the new words are stored in a supplementary word list as single words or by linking the words of the identified phrases to preserve any phrase relationships. Likewise, the statistical information may be stored.

System And Method For Depositing Material On A Piezoelectric Array

US Patent:
2012028, Nov 15, 2012
Filed:
Apr 9, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/442380
Inventors:
Deda Mampuya Diatezua - WELLINGTON FL, US
Rainer Schmitt - PALM BEACH GARDENS FL, US
Roland Williams - MARTINEZ CA, US
International Classification:
H01L 41/24, B05D 3/06, B05D 5/12
US Classification:
427555, 118696, 427100
Abstract:
A system having a print head for depositing material on a piezoelectric array, where the print head and array are moveable with respect to each other, and a computer for controlling movement of the print head and array with respect to each other to locations along the array, and controlling the print head to dispense the material onto the array at such locations. The print head deposits a pre-determined amount of material in one of dots, or in a line with movement of the print head and array with respect to each other. The system enables deposit of conductive material for electrical connections to array elements. Non-conductive polymer material may be deposited on the array before depositing conductive material to create barriers avoiding unintended connection of array elements by the conductive material. The system may also be used for fabricating a piezoelectric array by depositing electro-ceramic material.

Device And Method Of Conveying Meaning

US Patent:
8166418, Apr 24, 2012
Filed:
May 23, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/752669
Inventors:
Roland E. Williams - Martinez CA, US
Assignee:
ZI Corporation of Canada, Inc. - Calgary, Alberta
International Classification:
G06F 3/048
US Classification:
715825, 715752, 715866, 715977
Abstract:
Methods of and devices for inserting a pictorial artifact into a text document are described. A relational database is used to link possible text-entries with pictorial artifacts. A pictorial artifact has a meaning that corresponds to its linked possible text-entry. When text is entered, the database is searched to determine whether a match exists between the entered text and one of the possible text-entries in the database. If a match is found, the linked pictorial artifact is provided to the user for selection and entry into the text document. The pictorial artifacts may be modified, and modified artifacts may be used in a search of the database to locate linked text-entries, in order to permit the user to select alternate text.

Inquiry-Oriented User Input Apparatus And Method

US Patent:
7974979, Jul 5, 2011
Filed:
Oct 3, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/245696
Inventors:
Weigen Qiu - Calgary, CA
Roland E. Williams - Martinez CA, US
William J. Templeton-Steadman - Hemel Hempstead, GB
Assignee:
ZI Corporation of Canada, Inc. - Calgary, Alberta
International Classification:
G06F 17/30
US Classification:
707748, 707741, 707752
Abstract:
User input from a reduced keypad is disambiguated and compared with a first dynamic lexicon, and predicted matches (e. g. either a single word or phrase) are offered. If a user continues to type beyond a boundary condition, then input is no longer predicted from the first lexicon, but instead is interpreted as a request for matches from a second, quasi-static lexicon allowing words or phrases to be entered. When the entry is accepted, data is transmitted to a remote receiver and may be parsed as an inquiry for subsequent operation. Following acceptance, the apparatus invokes a program suitable for interacting with the response generated to the inquiry.
