Patient Compliance Monitor

US Patent:
6514200, Feb 4, 2003
Filed:
May 17, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/572348
Inventors:
Roger K. Khouri - Key Biscayne FL
Assignee:
Brava, LLC - Coconut Grove FL
International Classification:
A61B 500
US Classification:
600300, 600 38, 600587, 128898, 128920, 606 6
Abstract:
A patient monitoring device includes a microprocessor controller having a clock circuit and memory coupled to one or more sensors physically carried by a medical appliance such that as the medical appliance is properly fitted to and worn by the patient, the sensors provide an electrical signal confirming that which may be then timed to provide data which confirms a patients compliance with a recommended protocol. By combining and correlating the sensor data with the clock or timer provided as part of the controller, a time chart of data may be created indicating when and for how long the patient actually wears the device. Additionally, other sensors may be used to collect data relating to various operational parameters of the device including the amount of negative pressure presented under a vacuum dome or other parameters related to the operation of the medical appliance itself, as desired.

Method And Apparatus For Expanding Soft Tissue With Shape Memory Alloys

US Patent:
6478656, Nov 12, 2002
Filed:
Dec 1, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/203832
Inventors:
Roger K. Khouri - Key Biscayne FL
Assignee:
Brava, LLC - Coconut Grove FL
International Classification:
A41C 300
US Classification:
450 39, 450 1, 600 38
Abstract:
A soft tissue expander comprises a dome having a layer of memory material which transitions from a first, shallower, malleable configuration to a second, deeper configuration in response to its being heated to its transition temperature which is set at human body surface temperature. The second, deeper configuration is first “set” in the memory of the memory material so that the dome returns to it upon being heated by the body temperature of the patient. The memory material may be any one of the shape memory alloys, or plastic materials. The interior of the dome is adhered to the skin of the soft tissue to be expanded, such as through sticky layer of gel or surface tension provided by a thin layer of fluid. In one embodiment, a bra has a pair of domes for covering a patients breasts and which applies a tensile force thereon to thereby increase their size.

Closed System And Method For Atraumatic, Low Pressure, Continuous Harvesting, Processing, And Grafting Of Lipoaspirate

US Patent:
2008016, Jul 10, 2008
Filed:
Jun 26, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/768902
Inventors:
Roger K. Khouri - Key Biscayne FL, US
Murat Kuru - Miami FL, US
International Classification:
A61M 1/00, A61M 5/00, A61M 39/22
US Classification:
604119, 604131, 604319, 251356
Abstract:
A closed system for harvesting fat through liposuction, concentrating the aspirate so obtained, and then re-injecting the concentrated fat into a patient comprises as its main components a low pressure cannula having between about 7 to 12 side holes of about 1-2 mm by 2.0 to 4.0 mm, a spring loaded syringe holder with a helicoidal spring to apply a substantially constant pressure over the full excursion of the plunger, and a preferably flexible collection bag which is also preferably graduated, cylindrical over most of its body and funnel shaped at its bottom, all of which are connected through flexible tubings to a multi-port valve. The multi-port valve has two flutter/duck bill valves which restrict the fluid flow to a one way direction which effectively allows the syringe to be used to pump fat out of a patient and into a collection bag in a continuous manner. After the bags are centrifuged to concentrate the fat, the excess fluids are separated and the valve is re-connected to permit the syringe pump to reverse fluid flow to graft the concentrated fat back into the patient.

Method And Apparatus For Inhibiting The Growth Of And Shrinking Cancerous Tumors

US Patent:
2005024, Nov 3, 2005
Filed:
Apr 7, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/101240
Inventors:
Carlos Freyre - Miami FL, US
Roger Khouri - Key Biscayne FL, US
International Classification:
A61B019/00, A61H007/00, A61F005/00
US Classification:
601006000, 128898000
Abstract:
A dome for applying a vacuum to a patient's breast is comprised of a generally rigid dome capable of withstanding a pressure differential, with a rim and rim cushion underlying the rim of the dome for supporting a rim from the patient's skin surface. The rim may be generally wider than the dome in order to distribute the attendant forces across a greater surface and avoid tissue damage. A sticky sole underlies the rim cushion and seals the rim cushion to the patient's skin to thereby preserve the vacuum within the dome. The sticky sole may be comprised of any adhesive material or even be achieved through the use of an appropriate material for the rim cushion itself. A portable pump unit is connected to the domes and maintains the vacuum within the domes during a recommended protocol. By using the device in accordance with the prescribed protocol, the growth of cancer cells and tumors within the breasts are inhibited.

Method And System For Preparing Soft Tissue For Grafting, Enhancing Grafting Results, And Grafting Autologous Fat To Soft Tissue Such As The Breast

US Patent:
8066691, Nov 29, 2011
Filed:
Apr 21, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/409294
Inventors:
Roger K. Khouri - Key Biscayne FL, US
International Classification:
A61K 35/12
US Classification:
604522, 601 6, 601 11, 606201, 424 937, 514574
Abstract:
A method is disclosed for preparing a soft tissue site, and augmenting the soft tissue site, such as the breast(s) of a subject through use of devices that exert a distractive force on the breast(s) and grafting of autologous fat tissue such as domes with sealing rims for surrounding each of the breasts and a regulated pump. The method for preparing the soft tissue site, and enhancing fat graft results, entails application of the distracting force to the targeted soft tissue site for several weeks prior to the graft procedure. A related aspect of the invention includes following the preparation steps by transfer of fat from other areas of the subject to the subject's breast(s), and then reapplication of the distractive force to the breast(s) that received the autologous fat graft. Alternatively, fat from genetically related sources may be used, and the fat may be further processed prior to injection. Substantial breast augmentation, high rates of graft survival and negligible graft necrosis (data demonstrating 80% survival and only 20% necrosis is presented) or calcification result from the practice of these methods.
