Filed:
Sep 30, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/955155
Inventors:
Danny Addison - Durham NC, US
Roger Fowler - Apex NC, US
Donald Johnson - Cary NC, US
John Landers - Raleigh NC, US
David Steiner - Raleigh NC, US
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G06K 15/00
US Classification:
235383000
Abstract:
A system and method for providing an expandable, configurable and adaptable POS terminal having a common chassis in relation to a retailer's requirements without requiring a retailer to reconfigure or swap out the logic board of the POS terminal is provided. The POS terminal of the present invention includes a common chassis forming an interior compartment for housing the internal components of the POS terminal including a PC motherboard and riser cards having POS functionality. The footprint, appearance and connectivity of the POS terminal is also adaptable to reflect retailer requirements without the need to modify or exchange the logic board of the POS terminal. Such a system and method allows for improved in-field upgrades, improvements and extensions; automatic detection of configured technology via panel cards and riser cards; coupling and mixing of a plurality of connective technologies; and customization of unique connector configurations and external preferences for a specific retail environment.

Dual Cam Mounting Mechanism For Electronic Shelf Edge Labels

Dual Cam Mounting Mechanism For Electronic Shelf Edge Labels

US Patent:
5461809, Oct 31, 1995
Filed:
Aug 2, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/284335
Inventors:
Roger G. Fowler - Apex NC
Richard H. Harris - Raleigh NC
Assignee:
International Business Machines Corporation - Armonk NY
International Classification:
G09F 318
US Classification:
40642
Abstract:
A product information module (such as a shelf tag, shelf label or the like) includes a housing in which a physical embodiment of information is mounted and a locking device which mounts the housing to a support surface. The locking device includes a locking member which coacts with the support surface to form an angle A whose tangent is less than the coefficient of friction between the locking member and the support surface. As a consequence, locking force is minimal and lateral movement of the module is resisted no matter how much force is applied.
