Vehicle Undercarriage Inspection And Imaging Method And System

US Patent:
2003018, Oct 2, 2003
Filed:
May 17, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/150825
Inventors:
Robert Frantz - Oklahoma City OK, US
International Classification:
G01N023/04
US Classification:
378/057000
Abstract:
A low-cost, portable and highly-mobile “speed bump” which incorporates a plurality of electronic cameras, illumination devices, and range finders. The system can be rapidly and temporarily deployed to achieve increased security at facilities and events likely to be terrorist targets, and at checkpoints to achieve an element of surprise to terrorists and smugglers. As a vehicle drives over the imaging speed bump, range finders measure the position of the vehicle wheels in order to properly mark the position at which various images are captured. Image frames are “stitched” together to form a complete image of the undercarriage for display to a guard, officer or soldier. Reference images for a particular make and model of vehicle, as well as previously captured images of a specific vehicle may be used to detect anomalies in the vehicle's undercarriage.

Folding Vehicle Exterior Examination And Search System

US Patent:
2009003, Feb 5, 2009
Filed:
Oct 15, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/252051
Inventors:
Robert H. Frantz - Oklahoma City OK, US
International Classification:
H04N 7/18
US Classification:
348148, 348E07085
Abstract:
A low-cost, portable and highly-mobile “speed bump” which incorporates a plurality of electronic cameras, illumination devices, and range finders, coupled with one or more similar imaging systems configured to cooperate with the speed bump device to provide imaging of the undercarriage, sides or top of a vehicle. The system can be rapidly and temporarily deployed to achieve increased security at facilities and events likely to be terrorist targets, and at checkpoints to achieve an element of surprise to terrorists and smugglers. As a vehicle drives over the imaging speed bump and between or under the cooperating units, various images are captured. Image frames are “stitched” together to form a complete image of the undercarriage for display to a guard, officer or soldier.

Pistol Cocking Assistive Device

US Patent:
8549785, Oct 8, 2013
Filed:
Apr 10, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/860225
Inventors:
Lawrence C. Sharp - Bethany OK, US
Robert H. Frantz - Oklahoma City OK, US
International Classification:
F41C 27/00
US Classification:
42 90
Abstract:
At least one cam lock and an opposing structure form a compression channel for receiving and engaging a pistol slide. When the pistol is moved in a certain direction through the compression channel, the one or more cam locks and opposing structure engage the pistol's slide and translate some of the forward motion force into a compressive force on the sides of the slide. At a point where the compressive force overcomes the force of the main spring of the pistol, the pistol frame driven by the user moves forward relative to the slide, thereby racking the slide of the pistol.

Acousto-Mechanical Vehicle Characterization System And Method

US Patent:
7535793, May 19, 2009
Filed:
Jun 20, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/471256
Inventors:
Robert H. Frantz - Oklahoma City OK, US
International Classification:
H04B 17/00
US Classification:
367 13
Abstract:
A system and method for detecting concealed cargo, such as explosives contained in a closed vehicle trunk, by characterizing the transfer function between sets of wheels of the vehicle and automatically detecting changes of transfer functions due to changes in mass loading. The system and method contacts a first tire of the vehicle and transduces a signal such as a sweeping acoustic signal into the vehicle, simultaneously collecting the signal transmitted and attenuated through the vehicle to an second tire. The collected signal is analyzed and compared to previous transfer function characterization results to detect significant changes in the transfer function. If a significant change is detected, a system operator is alerted to prompt further preemptive action, such as a full search of the vehicle.
