Production Of 2,2-Disubstituted Propiolactones

US Patent:
3994929, Nov 30, 1976
Filed:
Jun 2, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/583338
Inventors:
Robert P. Allen - Longview TX
Hugh J. Hagemeyer - Longview TX
Assignee:
Eastman Kodak Company - Rochester NY
International Classification:
C07D30512
US Classification:
2603439
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture of 2,2-disubstituted propiolactones via the pyrolysis of methylene diisoalkylate in the vapor phase over a fixed bed catalyst system. The reaction of the invention is as follows: ##SPC1## Wherein R is alkyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R. sup. 1 is alkyl of from 1 to 4 carbon atoms or phenyl. The catalyst comprises an oxide of a metal selected from the group Ag, U, Zn, Ti, Zr, Th, Ta, Nb, Mo, W, and Sn on a suitable support. A preferred catalyst is the metal oxide-silica gel complex which results from heating the calcined residue of a salt of a metal selected from the group consisting of Ta, Ti, Nb and Zr supported upon a silica gel in the presence of nitrogen and steam at a temperature of from about 650. degree. C. to about 1000. degree. C. The process is operable at temperatures from about 240. degree. C.

Process For The Preparation Of Hydrocarbon Resins

US Patent:
4342850, Aug 3, 1982
Filed:
Oct 27, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/200866
Inventors:
Robert P. Allen - Longview TX
Albert C. Ruggles - Longview TX
Assignee:
Eastman Kodak Company - Rochester NY
International Classification:
C08F 804
US Classification:
525339
Abstract:
This invention relates to improved processes for hydrocarbon resin preparation. More particularly, the invention relates to treating the C. sub. 5 and higher mixed thermally soaked hydrocarbon fraction mixture obtained in the steam cracking of propane and ethane with alumina prior to polymerizing the hydrocarbon fraction mixture with a Friedel-Crafts catalyst to form a high softening point hydrocarbon resin. The polymerized resin is then quenched or diluted, washed to remove catalyst residues, dried and hydrogenated to provide high softening point hydrocarbon resins.

Low Softening Point Homopolypropylene Wax

US Patent:
5330568, Jul 19, 1994
Filed:
Oct 26, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/966788
Inventors:
Vernon K. Park - Longview TX
Randal R. Ford - Longview TX
Robert P. Allen - Longview TX
Assignee:
Eastman Chemical Company - Kingsport TN
International Classification:
C08L 9106
US Classification:
106270
Abstract:
A low molecular weight crystalline homopolypropylene wax of low softening point is disclosed. This homopolypropylene wax is prepared from high molecular weight crystalline polypropylene by thermal degradation in the presence of a relatively high amount of peroxide.

Hydrocarbon Resin And Process For Preparation

US Patent:
4393261, Jul 12, 1983
Filed:
Sep 22, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/421632
Inventors:
Robert P. Allen - Longview TX
Assignee:
Eastman Kodak Company - Rochester NY
International Classification:
C07C 318
US Classification:
585422
Abstract:
This invention relates to novel hydrocarbon resins and processes for their preparation. More particularly, the invention relates to a liquid hydrocarbon resin prepared by polymerizing norbornene and xylene with a Friedel-Crafts catalyst. The polymerized resin is hydrogenated to provide water white liquid hydrocarbon resins useful as liquid tackifiers in preparing hot-melt adhesive formulations.
