System And Method For Improved Transfer Of Data Between Multiple Processors And I/O Bridges

System And Method For Improved Transfer Of Data Between Multiple Processors And I/O Bridges

US Patent:
6128677, Oct 3, 2000
Filed:
Oct 15, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/943677
Inventors:
Robert J. Miller - Columbia SC
Edward A. McDonald - Baton Rouge LA
Assignee:
Intel Corporation - Santa Clara CA
International Classification:
G06F 1336
US Classification:
710 40
Abstract:
A controller is provided, for use in a processing system containing a plurality of processors operable to communicate with a plurality of I/O devices, for directing a first I/O request issued by a first selected one of the plurality of processors to a targeted one of the I/O devices. The controller device comprises a counter for counting a number of retries associated with the first I/O request and comparison circuitry for comparing a count value in the counter with a first predetermined limit, wherein the controller, in response to a determination that the count value in the counter exceeds the first predetermined limit, blocks all other I/O requests issued by the plurality of processors from being directed to the targeted I/O device.

Rail Vehicle For Use In The Collection And Distribution Of Railroad Crossties

Rail Vehicle For Use In The Collection And Distribution Of Railroad Crossties

US Patent:
6170401, Jan 9, 2001
Filed:
May 4, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/072586
Inventors:
Robert Miller - Columbia SC
Anthony Delucia - Gaston SC
Assignee:
Harsco Technologies Corporation - Fairmont MN
International Classification:
E01B 2906
US Classification:
104 9
Abstract:
A railway maintenance vehicle exchanges worn crossties for new ones. Worn ties are collected and placed on an increased capacity storage car which permits ties to be placed atop the storage cars in a lateral orientation. New ties are simultaneously unloaded from the storage cars for distribution along the track. Tie transport and loading vehicles such as a gantry crane travel on rails atop the storage cars to move worn and new ties between a tie pick up car and a tie distribution car which has a tie ejector for laterally propelling ties fed to it on a queuing conveyor. The tie ejector has an endless drive chain with two striker plates attached at opposite ends and opposite sides such that they cannot interfere. The outward and downward trajectory of ejected ties is adjustable by a movable deflector shield. The tie ejector can be manually actuated by an operator while the maintenance vehicle is advanced, to drop ties next to the track at a predetermined and repeatable position relative to passing empty tie cribs.

Multiprocessor Computing Apparatus Having Spin Lock Fairness

Multiprocessor Computing Apparatus Having Spin Lock Fairness

US Patent:
6047316, Apr 4, 2000
Filed:
Dec 12, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/989617
Inventors:
Richard R. Barton - Lexington SC
Arthur F. Cochcroft - West Columbia SC
Edward A. McDonald - Baton Rouge LA
Robert J. Miller - Columbia SC
Byron L. Reams - Lexington SC
Roy M. Stevens - Lexington SC
Billy K. Taylor - Columbia SC
Assignee:
INTEL Corporation - Santa Clara CA
International Classification:
G06F 1200
US Classification:
709216
Abstract:
A multiprocessor computing apparatus that includes a mechanism for favoring at least one processor over another processor to achieve more equitable access to cached data. Logic for detecting when, for example, a remote and a local processor are attempting to access data from the cache of another local processor is disclosed. Logic that provides an advantage to the remote processor in a manner that achieves fairer access among the various processors is also disclosed.

Moving Platform On Rail Vehicle

Moving Platform On Rail Vehicle

US Patent:
8025013, Sep 27, 2011
Filed:
Nov 3, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/263654
Inventors:
Anthony P. Delucia - Gatson SC, US
Robert S. Miller - Columbia SC, US
Assignee:
Harsco Technologies Corporation - Fairmont MN
International Classification:
E01B 27/00, B62D 33/063
US Classification:
104 2, 104 10, 180 8913
Abstract:
A rail vehicle having a single frame assembly and a movable platform coupled thereto is provided. The rail vehicle indexes, i. e. advances intermittently, along railroad rails. The movable platform advances in a single direction at a generally steady speed as the rail vehicle indexes along a railroad. The platform is the floor of, or a base for, a cabin preferably having a seat, roof support, and controls for the operator. The platform rides longitudinally with the machine on rollers or slides, thus separating the operator and controls from the rest of the machine. Thus, while the rail vehicle moves in an abrupt stop-and-go manner, the platform and the operator move generally consistently in a single direction.

Vertical Force Stabilizer

Vertical Force Stabilizer

US Patent:
8505459, Aug 13, 2013
Filed:
Jan 7, 2011
Appl. No.:
12/986286
Inventors:
Robert S. Miller - Columbia SC, US
Anthony P. Delucia - Gaston SC, US
Assignee:
Harsco Corporation - Camp Hill PA
International Classification:
E01B 27/00
US Classification:
104 12, 104 71, 104 72
Abstract:
An exemplary apparatus and method for applying a force to rails of a track is disclosed. The apparatus has a device with at least one first weight and at least one second weight rotatably mounted about a horizontal shaft which has an axis which is essentially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the rails. A power source is provided to drive the rotation of the at least one first weight and the at least one second weight at different revolutions per second. The rotation of the at least one first weight and the at least one second weight creates a vertical force which has a larger downward component as compared to an upward component of the vertical force.

Track Maintenance Apparatus And Method

Track Maintenance Apparatus And Method

US Patent:
2014001, Jan 16, 2014
Filed:
Jan 4, 2013
Appl. No.:
13/734883
Inventors:
Peter R. Maurice - Irmo SC, US
Robert S. Miller - Columbia SC, US
Assignee:
HARSCO CORPORATION - Camp Hill PA
International Classification:
E01B 29/00
US Classification:
104 2
Abstract:
In an aspect, a track maintenance vehicle includes a body, a work head, and a controller. The work head performs track maintenance and is coupled to the body. The controller is configured to operate the vehicle in an autonomous mode. In another aspect, an anchor adjustor includes first and second jaws and an actuator. The jaws pivot about a single axis. The actuator causes the jaws to rotate about the axis. In another aspect, an anchor adjustor assembly includes a first pair of jaws, a second pair of jaws and an actuator. The first and second pairs of jaws open and close about a rail in a track. The actuator causes the closed first pair of jaws to translate towards the closed second pair of jaws along a longitudinal direction of the rail.
