Apparatus And Method For Trimming A Can Body

US Patent:
4783982, Nov 15, 1988
Filed:
Sep 29, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/102115
Inventors:
Roger A. Hahn - Arvada CO
Robert H. Schultz - Broomfield CO
Assignee:
Adolph Coors Company - Golden CO
International Classification:
B21D 2818
US Classification:
72 55
Abstract:
A system for trimming a can body wherein a can body is positioned within a cutting member so that the cutting member is at the location where the can body is to be trimmed. A resilient, deformable object is inserted into the can body and positioned therein so that at least a portion thereof is located radially opposite portions of the can body on each side of the cutting member. The resilient, deformable object is deformed so as to move a first part thereof against a portion of the can body to prevent longitudinal movement of the can body and then to move a second part thereof against the portion of the can body located between the cutting member and the open end of the can body in a radially outward direction so as to sever that portion from the can body.

International Classification:
B65G 4791
US Classification:
1984711
Abstract:
A transfer system for transferring decorated containers, having images of wet ink on the outer peripheries thereof, from a first container carrying apparatus, comprising a continuously rotating mandrel wheel type apparatus carrying decorated containers with their open ends exposed, to second and third container carrying apparatus, each comprising continuously moving vacuum belts for carrying the decorated containers through a curing oven with their open ends exposed, comprising a continuously rotating transfer wheel which carries the decorated containers with their closed ends exposed and which is located between the first and the second and third container carrying apparatus and wherein the transfer wheel receives containers from the first container carrying apparatus for movement in a circular path and moves the containers while they are held thereon so that they are separated into two parallel spaced apart circular paths to be transferred to the second or third container carrying apparatus.

Device And Method For Uniformly Curing Uv Photoreactive Overvarnish Layers Using Magnetic Conveyors

US Patent:
4565713, Jan 21, 1986
Filed:
Nov 13, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/670035
Inventors:
Robert H. Schultz - Broomfield CO
Assignee:
Adolph Coors Company - Golden CO
International Classification:
B05D 306
US Classification:
427 541
Abstract:
An apparatus for curing coatings on objects such as beverage cans in a single one step operation by moving the cans along a path with a magnetic conveyor which traverses a predetermined angle so that face portions of the can which are substantially aligned with the direction of travel are irradiated with substantially direct radiation. This radiation also cures the inside portions of the can as the can passes through the predetermined angle. Side portions of the can which face substantially transversely to the direction of motion of the cans are irradiated by separate side radiation curing devices.
