Since sarcomas and other connective tissue tumors such as desmoid tumors represent more than 70 diseases, my goal in treating adults and children with these diagnoses (that is, connective tissue cancers of bone, cartilage, muscle, fat and other soft tissue) is to find the right drug for the diagnosis at hand. I also have an interest in the biology that leads to different types of sarcomas. My efforts at Mount Sinai are directed towards integrative sarcoma biology and treatment of sarcomas. My group conducts clinical trials in adults with sarcomas, and translational studies in sarcoma biology to identify the next possible targets for new drugs to treat sarcomas. I also lead the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology program at Mount Sinai, continuing my 25+ year interest in sarcomas in the care of adolescents, while expanding the role of our pediatric hematology-oncology program in the treatment and research of pediatric cancers such as ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia) and other cancers.
