I believe that establishing a diagnosis and recommending treatment is only part of my role in caring for patients. Equally important is educating the patient about his/her disorder and empowerment to monitor/manage/cope with that disorder. Patient care is a collaborative endeavor but face-to-face interaction between the patient and physician remains essential, as does the patient's participation in his/her care.
