Sonic Apparatus For Removing Gas From Photographic Emulsion

Sonic Apparatus For Removing Gas From Photographic Emulsion

US Patent:
4070167, Jan 24, 1978
Filed:
Mar 8, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/664831
Inventors:
Eugene Hartzell Barbee - East Rochester NY
Robert Cushman Brown - Rochester NY
Assignee:
Eastman Kodak Company - Rochester NY
International Classification:
B01D 1900
US Classification:
55192
Abstract:
Bubbles are eliminated from a liquid such as a photographic emulsion by passing the emulsion through a horizontal tubular container while pulling a vacuum on the container and subjecting the emulsion to ultrasonic vibrations from an ultrasonic transducer having a horn located in a well in the bottom of the container. Emulsion is pumped out of the container and delivered through a conduit to the point of use. The delivery circuit can include a secondary gas separation chamber which also has a transducer horn therein. Provision is made for selectively recycling part or all of the emulsion back into the well. The container can be operated either partly full or completely full of liquid. Provision is also made for cleaning the internal walls of the apparatus by injecting a swirling stream of liquid into the tubular container to flow through the container and downstream portions of the system.

Process For Providing Encapsulated Toner Composition

Process For Providing Encapsulated Toner Composition

US Patent:
4097404, Jun 27, 1978
Filed:
Jan 29, 1973
Appl. No.:
5/327528
Inventors:
Robert Warren Brown - Rochester NY
Assignee:
Xerox Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
B01J 1302
US Classification:
252316
Abstract:
A simplified method of encapsulating toners is provided which comprises polymerization and coacervation resulting in a copolymer encapsulated in an incompatible shell polymer. Toner particles are prepared by mixing a solute polymer in a solvent monomer after which polymerization of the solvent monomer is initiated, resulting in a polymer from the solvent monomer which phase-separates from the solvent monomer to form a solvent-poor phase which eventually comprises the capsule core. The solvent-rich phase then provides the material for the capsule wall.

Method Of Forming Encapsulated Toner Particles

Method Of Forming Encapsulated Toner Particles

US Patent:
4016099, Apr 5, 1977
Filed:
Mar 27, 1972
Appl. No.:
5/238528
Inventors:
Russel E. Wellman - Pittsford NY
Robert W. Brown - Rochester NY
Assignee:
Xerox Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
B01J 1302
US Classification:
252316
Abstract:
A method is provided for forming encapsulated particles comprising forming a dispersion of core material in a solution of wall material in a solvent; drowning said dispersion in at least one liquid which is miscible with the solvent and in which at least the wall material is substantially insoluble, to effect phase-separation of said wall material, whereby said wall material deposits about said core material forming a dilute dispersion of particles comprising said core material encapsulated with said wall material in said liquid, and recovering said encapsulated particles from said liquid.

Encapsulation Process

Encapsulation Process

US Patent:
4187194, Feb 5, 1980
Filed:
Feb 7, 1974
Appl. No.:
5/440637
Inventors:
Russel E. Wellman - Pittsford NY
Robert W. Brown - Rochester NY
Assignee:
Xerox Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
B01J 1302, B05D 700, B29C 1300
US Classification:
252316
Abstract:
A process for forming capsules comprising: (i) forming a solution of wall material and core material in a solvent; (ii) admixing said solution with an immiscible liquid to form a dispersion wherein said solution is the dispersed phase and the immiscible liquid is the continuous phase; (iii) altering the solubility characteristics of the solvent for said solution to effect sequential phase separation of said core and wall materials, respectively, thereby forming capsules of core material encapsulated with wall material; and (iv) recovering said capsules.
