System For Stabilizing Dendritic Web Crystal Growth

US Patent:
6402839, Jun 11, 2002
Filed:
Apr 19, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/294529
Inventors:
Daniel L. Meier - Pittsburgh PA
Gregory T. Neugebauer - Bethel Park PA
Edward V. Macuga - Finleyville PA
Robert P. Stoehr - Pittsburgh PA
Philip J. Simpson - Bridgeville PA
Jalal Salami - West Mifflin PA
Assignee:
Ebara Solar, Inc. - Large PA
International Classification:
C30B 1534
US Classification:
117208, 117 32, 117 33, 117903
Abstract:
A process for dendritic web growth is described. The process includes providing a melt, growing a dendritic web crystal from the melt, replenishing the melt during the step of growing the dendritic web crystal, and applying a magnetic field to the melt during the step of growing the dendritic web crystal. An apparatus for stabilizing dendritic web growth is also described. The apparatus includes a crucible including a feed compartment for receiving pellets to facilitate melt replenishment and a growth compartment designed to hold a melt for dendritic web growth. The apparatus further includes a magnetic field generator configured to provide a magnetic field during dendritic web growth.

System And Method For Dendritic Web Solar Cell Shingling

US Patent:
2003012, Jul 3, 2003
Filed:
Dec 31, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/037352
Inventors:
Robert Stoehr - Pittsburgh PA, US
Philip Simpson - Pittsburgh PA, US
Akio Shibata - Kamakura, JP
International Classification:
E04D001/00
US Classification:
052/518000, 052/171300, 052/519000, 052/748100
Abstract:
A dendritic web solar cell shingled array comprises at least two dendritic web solar cells. A first cell overlaps a portion of a second cell such that a back contact of the first cells interconnects with a top contact of the second cell. The cells are less than 150 microns thick, allowing a direct connection between the back contact and top contact of the two cells without the use of a visible busbar. The cells may be shingled together using soldering material and/or electrically conductive adhesives.

Method For Feeding A Subliming Material Into A Liquid

US Patent:
4111764, Sep 5, 1978
Filed:
May 17, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/797779
Inventors:
Robert A. Stoehr - Pittsburgh PA
Robert J. Ormesher - Leechburg PA
Stanley C. Jacobs - Lower Burrell PA
Assignee:
Aluminum Company of America - Pittsburgh PA
International Classification:
C25C 300
US Classification:
204 64R
Abstract:
A method for feeding a subliming material into a liquid is disclosed, by which the end of a pipe is submerged below the surface of the liquid, and a subliming, particulate material is propelled through the pipe and into the liquid by a flow of gas. The flow rate of the entraining gas is sufficient to prevent the formation of deposits on the interior walls of the pipe by countercurrent gaseous diffusion of the subliming material.
