Air-Conditioning Register Assembly And Method

US Patent:
7966837, Jun 28, 2011
Filed:
Mar 28, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/692535
Inventors:
Rizk El-Galley - Birmingham AL, US
Richard A. Campbell - Huntsville AL, US
Joseph R. McGinty - Madison AL, US
Assignee:
Madina, LLC - Birmingham AL
International Classification:
F25D 17/08
US Classification:
62186, 62177, 236 493
Abstract:
A register assembly for augmenting the flow of conditioned air from a central air-conditioning unit to a room includes a fan, a temperature sensor, and a processing means. The fan is operably positioned for increasing air flow through the register assembly. The temperature sensor is for measuring a temperature of air in the register assembly and for outputting a measured temperature signal. The processing means is for: receiving the measured temperature signal; using the measured temperature signal in determining whether the central air-conditioning unit is providing conditioned air to the room; and activating the fan to augment the conditioned air flow if the central air-conditioning unit is providing conditioned air to the room. The processing means also provides drift compensation to prevent unwanted operation of the fan due to temperature drifts. The register assembly may include a rectangular housing positioned around the components for use in a floor vent, or a housing adapting a floor vent to a centrifugal, tower fan.

Surgical Instrument And Method For Suture Ligation

US Patent:
2003015, Aug 14, 2003
Filed:
Feb 11, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/073508
Inventors:
Rizk El-Galley - Birmingham AL, US
International Classification:
A61B017/04
US Classification:
606/148000
Abstract:
The present disclosure describes a modified surgical instrument of conventional design for assisting in suture ligation. The instrument is particularly well suited for suture ligation during endoscopic and laparoscopic procedures, but may be used in conventional surgical procedures as well. The instrument comprises a knot assist assembly operationally coupled to the instrument such that in operation, the knot assist assembly provides the surgeon with a perpendicular tip to aid in suture ligation.

Tourniquet Instrument

US Patent:
2003015, Aug 14, 2003
Filed:
Feb 11, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/073494
Inventors:
Rizk El-Galley - Birmingham AL, US
International Classification:
A61B017/08
US Classification:
606/158000
Abstract:
A surgical instrument that allows a surgeon to temporarily halt the flow of blood to a tissue during a surgical procedure (temporary hemostasis) and restore the flow of blood to the tissue when desired without damaging the tissue is described. The instrument comprises a handle means, a hollow barrel member, a loop and an operating means coupled to the loop to drive the loop between contracted state and an expanded state. Preferably, one end of the loop is removable from the operating means so that temporary hemostasis can be induced in virtually any tissue of the body.
