Inventors:
Donald Schon - Paradise Valley AZ, US
Rick Mishler - Phoenix AZ, US
Timothy Schweikert - Levittown PA, US
Assignee:
Medical Components, Inc. - Harleysville PA
TwinCath, LLC - Paradise Valley AZ
International Classification:
A61M 29/00
US Classification:
606192000
Abstract:
A cutting balloon catheter assembly () including a dual lumen catheter () having a distal end (), an inflation/deflation lumen () and a second or guidewire lumen (). The assembly further includes an inflatable balloon () having an interior cavity () and an expandable covering () disposed about the balloon wherein the covering has an array of cutting edges. In the assembly, the balloon () is fixedly connected to the distal end () of the catheter and the interior cavity () of the balloon () is in fluid communication with the first lumen () of the catheter (). A method of removing obstructions () from vessel walls () using the present invention is also disclosed wherein the cutting edges abrade the stenoses, plaque or lesions along the vessel walls, when the catheter assembly is reciprocally moved longitudinally or rotationally after inflation of the balloon.
