US Patent:
7376648, May 20, 2008
Filed:
Oct 20, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/969488
Inventors:
Richard C. Johnson - East Setauket NY, US
Assignee:
Oracle International Corporation - Redwood Shores CA
International Classification:
G06F 17/30, G06F 7/00, G06F 3/048, G06F 17/28
US Classification:
707 4, 715780, 704 2, 704 9, 704254
Abstract:
A computer-implemented method for selecting a desired Roman or non-Roman-alphabet character or objects from a set of non-Roman characters or objects may include steps of providing an association database that includes, for each non-Roman-alphabet character of the set, a Roman alphabet or other phonetic transliteration associated with each said non-Roman-alphabet character and a plurality of entries that are associated with each said non-Roman-alphabet character; receiving a phonetic transliteration of the desired non-Roman-alphabet character or data object and at least one associated entry that is associated with the desired non-Roman-alphabet character or other similar symbolic input; accessing the association database and identifying as candidate characters those characters of the set that are associated with the received phonetic transliteration and with the at least one received associated entry; if a number of candidate characters is greater than one, receiving additional associated entries and repeating the accessing and identifying step until a number of candidate characters is narrowed down to a single candidate character, and providing the single candidate character as the desired non-Roman-alphabet character. Also, derived from the principles described above, this invention includes a variety of methods for improving the efficiency of search engines through use of associations and other means of providing context for the item(s) being searched.

Methods And Systems For Verifying The Position And Status Of Hierarchically Arranged Objects

US Patent:
7088229, Aug 8, 2006
Filed:
Jun 14, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/868294
Inventors:
Richard C. Johnson - East Setauket NY, US
Assignee:
Oracle International Corporation - Redwood Shores CA
International Classification:
G08B 26/00
US Classification:
340505, 3405391, 34053911, 34053913, 34053932, 3405721, 340 101
Abstract:
A tracking system for tracking a plurality of items or boxes of items defines a plurality of levels that may be physically and logically organized in a hierarchy. Each level of the hierarchy only communicates with the next hierarchically lower level (if it exists) and/or a next hierarchically higher level (if it exists). The lowest hierarchical level includes a wireless tag coupled to each of the plurality of items. Each of the wireless tags may be configured to provide a unique identifier when queried. Remaining hierarchical levels may each include one or more uniquely identified computing devices that are configured to query the wireless tags or computing devices of the next hierarchically lower level, to store information including the unique identifier and any other information provided by the queried next hierarchically lower level and to provide the stored information to the computing device(s) of the next hierarchically higher level (if it exists). A sealed box or document may form a part of the hierarchy and may include a conductive mesh coupled to a wireless tag, repeater or computing device that is configured to report on the state of the conductive mesh.

Methods And Systems For Voter-Verified Secure Electronic Voting

US Patent:
7077314, Jul 18, 2006
Filed:
Dec 6, 2004
Appl. No.:
11/005109
Inventors:
Richard C. Johnson - East Setauket NY, US
Assignee:
Oracle International Corporation - Redwood Shores CA
International Classification:
G06F 16/60
US Classification:
235386, 705 12
Abstract:
Votes are cast using an electronic voting machine that is configured to transmit the votes cast in electronic form and to memorialize the votes in a persistent and tangible form (such as a printed paper ballot, for example) that is both machine and human readable. To ensure that the voter has the ability to verify that his or her completed ballot accurately reflects his or her voting choices, the present voting machine is configured to securely present the printed ballot for the voter's visual inspection prior to finalizing the voting process. The present electronic voting machine is preferably configured with a read-after-write functionality, wherein one or more scanners read what the voting machine's print head prints, during or immediately after the printing process. The present voting systems and methods are configured such that the voting procedures for absentee and non-absentee voters are parallel and identical, except that the voting card is carried by the absentee voter and not limited to the local polling place.

Doubledeadlock: A True Combination Door Latch And Deadbolt Lock With Optional Automatic Deadbolt Locking When A Door Is Latched

US Patent:
2008017, Jul 31, 2008
Filed:
Jul 30, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/830421
Inventors:
Richard C. JOHNSON - Poquott NY, US
Assignee:
Industrial Widget Works Company - Poquott NY
International Classification:
E05C 9/12
US Classification:
292 39
Abstract:
A combined automatic latch and deadbolt assembly includes a latch; a deadbolt configured to selectively assume a first and a second configuration, the deadbolt defining a deadbolt feature; a first mechanical coupling coupled to the latch, and a second mechanical coupling that coupled the latch to the deadbolt. The second mechanical coupling may be configured such that movement of the latch causes the first mechanical coupling to move and engage the second mechanical coupling with the deadbolt feature to selectively cause a) the deadbolt to assume the first configuration, and b) cause the deadbolt to assume the second configuration.

Architecture For Computer-Implemented Authentication And Authorization

US Patent:
7483896, Jan 27, 2009
Filed:
Jun 6, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/145736
Inventors:
Richard C. Johnson - Poquott NY, US
Assignee:
Oracle International Corporation - Redwood Shores CA
International Classification:
G06F 17/30
US Classification:
707 9, 707 1, 707 6, 707100, 707101, 709 1, 710200, 715512, 715513
Abstract:
A computer-implemented method for controlling user access to secured data resources includes a step of inventorying data resources that are to be secured. Thereafter, a requirements data structure may be generated that includes one element mapped to each of the inventoried data resources, each element being configured to store a requirement value that is set according to an authorization level necessary to access the mapped data resource. For each user to have access to any of the inventoried data resources, a grant data structure may be defined that includes one element mapped to each of the plurality of data resources, each element being configured to store a grant value that is set according to an authorization granted to the user to access the mapped data resource. When a user request for access to at least one of the secured data resources is received, a step may be carried out to compare the grant and requirements data structures. Access may then be disallowed by the received user request to any secured data resource that is mapped to any element of the requirements data structure whose requirement value is greater than the grant value of a corresponding element of the grant data structure.
