Hydrocyclone Conduits

US Patent:
5221476, Jun 22, 1993
Filed:
Feb 13, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/835298
Inventors:
Richard R. Papetti - North Easton MA
James D. Livsey - Rochester MA
Ernest J. Charette - Taunton MA
Assignee:
Bird Escher Wyss Inc. - Mansfield MA
International Classification:
B01D 2126
US Classification:
2105122
Abstract:
Hydrocyclone separators of the type used to separate contaminants from pulp suspensions in paper mills are connected to feed, accept, and reject conduits using a conduit apparatus in which both feed and accept portions can be made from smooth material. The feed and accept portions include surfaces through which apertures are provided for making connections to the feed and accept nozzles of the hydrocyclones. The smooth material eliminates the tendency of pulp to build up on the conduit walls and in the nozzles, thereby avoiding the problems that can occur when such build ups break loose. The nozzles of the hydrocyclones are preferably attached by placing a resilient sealing member around the circumference of the nozzle, and inserting the nozzle into an aperture formed in the wall of the conduit until the sealing member engages the inside wall of the aperture. The wall of the conduit can include a generally flat portion made from a metal plate material so that the sealing member seals only against the narrow, generally-cylindrical inside surface of the aperture. The wall can also be molded of a plastic material and can have an aperture dimensioned so that a length between the exterior and interior walls changes around the aperture.

Continuous Cut Slotted Screen Basket

US Patent:
5513757, May 7, 1996
Filed:
Jun 2, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/252759
Inventors:
Richard R. Papetti - North Easton MA
Assignee:
Sulzer Papertec Mansfield Inc. - Mansfield MA
International Classification:
B07B 149
US Classification:
209406
Abstract:
A continuous cut slotted screen basket for removing contaminants from papermaking stock is disclosed. The screen basket has a wall member with first and second sides. Blind parallel first slots are cut into and are spaced across the first side. The first slots are continuous and are separated from the second side by webs of reduced wall thickness. Mutually spaced reinforcing elements are secured to the first side. The reinforcing elements extend transversely across the first slots and are spaced from the webs of reduced wall thickness. Continuous second slots are cut through the webs. The second slots are parallel to and communicate with respective first slots.

Pressure Screening Apparatus With Baffle

US Patent:
5323913, Jun 28, 1994
Filed:
Dec 8, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/986971
Inventors:
Richard R. Papetti - North Easton MA
Assignee:
Bird Escher Wyss Inc. - Mansfield MA
International Classification:
B07B 120
US Classification:
209273
Abstract:
A screening apparatus for separating acceptable and rejectable material from a pressurized stream of fluid pulp is provided. The screening apparatus includes a housing with a chamber having a geometry conducive for deflecting air and light materials radially away from an axis of rotation and to peripheral regions of the housing. The chamber is disposed at one end of the housing and has a dimension defined by an axial spacing between the housing and an end portion of a screen basket, the axial spacing along the axis of rotation increasing with increasing radius relative to the axis of rotation. Deflecting the air and light material away from the axis of rotation improves the separation of acceptable and rejectable materials from the fluid pulp and reduces wear of the internal components of the screening apparatus.
