Coffee Maker With A Variable Brew Strength Apparatus

Coffee Maker With A Variable Brew Strength Apparatus

US Patent:
4328740, May 11, 1982
Filed:
Dec 22, 1980
Appl. No.:
6/219408
Inventors:
Robert M. McDonough - Hatfield PA
Thomas E. Hanson - Phoenixville PA
Richard H. Brill - Philadelphia PA
Ronald W. Oates - Chalfont PA
Assignee:
SCM Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
A47J 3110
US Classification:
99295
Abstract:
In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a coffeemaker with a variable brew strength apparatus which comprises a base which contains a water reservoir and a heater and which supports a coffee carafe. The base supports a variable brew strength apparatus directly over the coffee carafe. The variable brew strength apparatus includes a water restrictor member which is rotably mounted on the cover of a coffee basket member. The water restrictor member and the coffee basket member, in combination, form a valve which either admits heated water to an inner basket which is mounted in the coffee basket and which contains ground coffee, or causes a portion of the heated water to bypass the inner basket and enter the coffee basket to mix with and dilute coffee brewed in the inner basket. The coffee basket supports a special coffee scoop which has a tabular indicia relating the number of cups of coffee desired, the brew strength desired, and the number of scoops of coffee required. Brew strength indicia are provided on the cover of the coffee basket to facilitate the brewing of coffee using an optimum ratio of coffee and water.

Moldable Curling Iron

Moldable Curling Iron

US Patent:
4939340, Jul 3, 1990
Filed:
Mar 1, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/317528
Inventors:
Richard H. Brill - Philadelphia PA
Assignee:
Conair Corporation - Stamford CT
International Classification:
A45D 104
US Classification:
219225
Abstract:
A curling iron is provided which is easy to assemble and, so, more economical to manufacture. The unit is molded in two snap-together halves, one half being the bottom portion (divided axially) and the other half being the top portion, and a molded spoon. The molded sections would include all the parts except for the electrical components. The curling iron is assembled by inserting the electrical components in one half, snapping the two halves together, and then snapping the spoon into place over the upper half. The molded sections are formed of a high temperature thermoplastic material. This material is transparent to infra-red rays; and, so, if an infra-red heater is used, the rays can pass through the plastic and heat the hair directly.

Percolator

Percolator

US Patent:
4029940, Jun 14, 1977
Filed:
Jun 9, 1975
Appl. No.:
5/584795
Inventors:
John Littell Eaton - Delanco NJ
Richard Henry Brill - Philadelphia PA
Walter E. Myers - Philadelphia PA
Assignee:
SCM Corporation - New York NY
International Classification:
H05B 102
US Classification:
219506
Abstract:
An electric percolator having a liquid containing section formed from an assembly of glass and other materials fixed together by means of a locking collar. The lid of the percolator is held in place by means of a quick-release latching mechanism which prevents the lid from being disengaged by the lifting motion normally used to open a lid and instead requires a twisting motion which rapidly releases the lid. Simplified electrical circuitry in the percolator utilizes a single lamp that indicates both the "Brewing" and the "Keep Warm" modes of percolator operation. A method is also set forth for assembling a composite apparatus, having a glass component which does not require threading, strapping or gluing of the glass component.
