Abstract:
A mass storage cabinet having passive device position sensing and including shelves for racking device enclosures. A cabinet bus is linked to the shelves and adapted to provide a unique shelf identifier signal to each of the shelves. The cabinet includes a device providing a cabinet identifier to the shelves. The cabinet bus includes junction boxes having first and second sets of sensing wires and a side connectors linked to the shelves for providing the shelf identifier signal from the first and second sets of sensing wires. To provide a different signal at each junction box, the sensing wires in the first set are moved one position and the sensing wires in the second set are moved one position prior to the connection to an adjacent junction box. An additional sensing wire is linked to the side connectors and grounded and ungrounded at each side connector to alter the signal.

Bios Recovery

US Patent:
2012001, Jan 12, 2012
Filed:
Jul 6, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/831042
Inventors:
Richard B. ROBERTS - Colorado Springs CO, US
David A. Daigle - Colorado Springs CO, US
Peter L. McCollum - Colorado Springs CO, US
International Classification:
G06F 11/08, G06F 12/06
US Classification:
714 63, 711102, 714E1103, 711E12078, 713 2
Abstract:
Techniques for basic input output system (“BIOS”) recovery are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a BIOS recovery system includes a processor and two non-volatile storage devices configured for contiguous addressing. The devices are configured to include a first BIOS storage region disposed at an upper end of a higher addressed of the storage devices, and to include a platform data region of capacity equal to a configured capacity of each of the storage devices. The platform data region is disposed to include part of each of the two storage devices, and includes a second BIOS storage region, equal in capacity to the first BIOS storage region, disposed in the lower addressed of the storage devices. The first BIOS storage region is accessible for retrieval of a BIOS for execution and the second BIOS storage region is not accessible for retrieval of a BIOS for execution.
