Method Of And Apparatus For Examination Of Visual Fields

US Patent:
4255022, Mar 10, 1981
Filed:
Oct 2, 1978
Appl. No.:
5/948115
Inventors:
Christian L. Kuether - Houston TX
Robert E. Williams - Pearland TX
Thomas A. Decker - Houston TX
Charles Kurtzman - Houston TX
Kenneth T. Richardson - Anchorage AK
Richard A. Harrison - Houston TX
Assignee:
Baylor College of Medicine - Houston TX
International Classification:
A61B 306
US Classification:
351 24
Abstract:
A microprocessor based instrument designed to retrofit into existing perimeters utilizing the mechanics and stimulus control aspects of the existing perimeter. The device includes an array board positioned adjacent the perimeter mechanical arm and includes a multiplicity of visual indicators spatially arranged in a composite pattern of testing locations required for one or more ophthalmic testing procedures. A processor is connected to the array board for sequentially actuating the visual indicators in accordance with the testing procedure whereby the operator guides a cursor attached to the perimeter mechanical arm to align with the actuated indicators and control the location of the perimeter test stimulus. The processor includes means for sensing the position of the cursor, silently presenting a light flash to the patient, and a memory which records the patient's responses. When the program test sequence has been completed, the missed locations on the array board actuate allowing the examiner to manually record the data on a printed form.

Optical Apparatus For Obtaining Measurements Of Portions Of The Eye

US Patent:
4019813, Apr 26, 1977
Filed:
Jan 19, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/650391
Inventors:
Tom N. Cornsweet - Houston TX
Richard A. Harrison - Houston TX
Assignee:
Baylor College of Medicine - Houston TX
International Classification:
A61B 310, A61B 314
US Classification:
351 14
Abstract:
An optical apparatus for obtaining one or more measurements of portions of an eye having means for providing a narrow beam of light through the eye, a lens system that collects light that is reflected from the eye and forms an image on the surface of a television camera tube and including means for determining when the narrow beam of light passes through the center of curvature of the cornea and when the instrument is correctly positioned for proper focus on the eye. Means are connected to the television camera for receiving and processing the video signals while the camera scans the image of the eye for measuring various portions of the eye such as the thickness of the cornea, the curvature of the leading edge of the cornea, the depth of the anterior chamber, the thickness of the lens, the transparency of the cornea, the transparency of the aqueous humor, and the transparency of the lens.

Duct Air Sweeper

US Patent:
5109567, May 5, 1992
Filed:
Apr 29, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/692568
Inventors:
Richard R. Harrison - Houston TX
Assignee:
Steamatic, Inc. - Grand Prairie TX
International Classification:
A47L 538, B08B 104
US Classification:
15345
Abstract:
A main hose has one end which supports a hub and outward extending tubular members for rotation. Said one end of the main hose has inlet openings and the other end is coupled to a vacuum blower. A second smaller diameter hose extends into the main hose and has one end connected to the hub and the other end connected to a compressor. The compressor is operated to inject air through the second hose and through the rotatable tubular members for rotating the hub and the tubular members and for injecting air outward through the tubular member onto the walls of the duct to be cleaned. The vacuum blower is operated to form reduced air pressure in the main hose to withdraw the loosened material by way of the inlet openings at said one end and through the main hose by way of the vacuum blower.
