US Patent:
6467968, Oct 22, 2002
Filed:
Apr 23, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/840757
Inventors:
Richard Nils Young - Atlanta GA 30309
International Classification:
F16C 1704
US Classification:
384420, 294265, 2940208, 74401, 74413, 210528
Abstract:
An apparatus for a clarifier including a central pier terminating in a base plate having a circumferential edge and a ring gear rotatable about the central pier and coupled to a rake structure, the apparatus including a plurality of support bearings and a retaining ring structure. A lower surface of each support bearing seated on and supported by a portion of the base plate and a portion of an upper surface of each support bearing for support of a portion of the bottom of the ring gear, the support bearings placed substantially end-to-end to form a circular bearing extending towards the circumferential edge of the base plate. The retaining ring structure in rotative contact with a portion of the outer circumferential surface of the ring gear, the ring structure including a plurality of removably coupled semi-circular retaining members forming a circular hoop extending normal to the circumferential edge of the base plate, a portion of the circular hoop coupled to the circumferential edge of the base plate, wherein the retaining ring structure aligns the ring gear to rotation about a fixed axis. The apparatus may also include an adjustment mechanism selectively operable with the ring gear to adjust a vertical position of the ring gear relative to a top surface of the base plate.

Continuous Flow Reactor Wastewater Treatment Plant

Continuous Flow Reactor Wastewater Treatment Plant

US Patent:
6773593, Aug 10, 2004
Filed:
Mar 1, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/087692
Inventors:
Richard Nils Young - Atlanta GA 30309
International Classification:
C02F 302
US Classification:
210605, 210623, 210803, 210205, 210256, 210258, 210525, 210530, 2101953, 210197
Abstract:
A system, apparatus, and method for treating wastewater having bio-solids therein. The system includes a tank, a wastewater inlet line, an effluent discharge outlet line, and an aeration source. The tank has an upper aeration chamber and a lower clarification chamber separated by a common inclined partition having an opening defined therein. The inclined partition opens into the lower clarification chamber near a bottom of the tank which allows fluid communication between the upper aeration chamber and the lower clarification chamber. The bottom of the tank has a bio-sludge outlet for removal of settled bio-solids. The wastewater inlet line opens into the aeration chamber and an intake end of the effluent discharge outlet line is positioned within the clarification chamber. The aeration source is positioned within the aeration chamber to supply air to the wastewater within the aeration chamber.

Ram Drive For A Cylindrical Drum

Ram Drive For A Cylindrical Drum

US Patent:
5953958, Sep 21, 1999
Filed:
Dec 13, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/764973
Inventors:
Richard Nils Young - Atlanta GA
Assignee:
DBS Manufacturing, Inc. - Forest Park GA
International Classification:
F16H 2702
US Classification:
74129
Abstract:
An apparatus for rotating a drum employs a plurality of drive sprockets disposed about the outside surface of the drum and spaced-apart along the length of the drum. Each drive sprocket has a first flange, a second flange, and a plurality of pins interconnecting the first flange and the second flange, spaced-apart about the drum and parallel to the axis of the drum. Spaced-apart hydraulic rams each exert force on one of the drive sprockets so as to cause rotation of the drum. Each ram is moveable between a linearly retracted first state and a linearly extended second state and has a first end and an opposite second end. The first end is secured to the base, the second end is engageable with the pins of a selected drive sprocket so that as the ram extends from the first state to the second state, the ram exerts force on a pin in the first direction, the first direction being tangential to the outside surface and perpendicular to the axis of the drum. Force from the rams is transferred to the drum through the pins, the first flange and the second flange. A plurality of spaced-apart ratchet stops prevent movement of the drum in a direction opposite the first direction.

Aerating Rotor With Submersible Planetary Gearbox

Aerating Rotor With Submersible Planetary Gearbox

US Patent:
5785899, Jul 28, 1998
Filed:
Mar 24, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/823212
Inventors:
Richard Nils Young - Atlanta GA
Assignee:
DBS Manufacturing, Inc. - Forest Park GA
International Classification:
B01F 304
US Classification:
261 91
Abstract:
An apparatus for aerating a liquid, having a surface, employs a motor having a rotating member and a non-rotating member. A shaft is coupled to the rotating member of the motor. Also coupled to the shaft is an input of a planetary gear assembly, comprising stationary upper portion and a rotatable lower portion. The rotatable lower portion is coupled to the axial section of an aeration rotor so that as the aeration rotor is placed in the liquid, a portion of the planetary gear assembly is in contact with the liquid, thereby facilitating cooling of the planetary gear assembly by the liquid. The planetary gear assembly also comprises a seal between the stationary upper portion and the rotatable lower portion disposed above the liquid and disposed above substantially all of the oil in the planetary gear assembly so as to inhibit spillage of oil from the planetary gear assembly into the liquid if the seal fails. A torque tube having a first end and an opposite second end connects the motor to the planetary gear assembly. The first end is affixed to the non-rotating member of the motor and the second end is affixed to the upper stationary portion of the planetary gear assembly.

Wastewater Treatment System And Method Of Using Same

Wastewater Treatment System And Method Of Using Same

US Patent:
8109488, Feb 7, 2012
Filed:
Jul 18, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/879593
Inventors:
Richard Nils Young - Atlanta GA, US
Assignee:
DBS Manufacturing, Inc. - Atlanta GA
International Classification:
B01F 3/04
US Classification:
261 361, 261 91, 210628, 210630
Abstract:
A wastewater treatment system having a tank, a rotatable surface aerator and an elongate draft tube is presented. The elongate draft tube is at least partially submerged beneath the liquid and is rotated about its longitudinal axis for orbitally moving the liquid through the tank in a fixed direction. The rotatable surface aerator is coupled to the proximal end of the draft tube and is at least partially immersible into the liquid. The system further can provide an anoxic zone. A process for treating wastewater is also provided.
