Apparatus And Method For Ethyl Chloride Topical Anesthesia
US Patent:
5941243, Aug 24, 1999
Filed:
Oct 16, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/953826
Inventors:
Richard H. Mann - Delray Beach FL
International Classification:
A61M 1500
US Classification:
12820312
Abstract:
Apparatus for topical anesthesia by evaporative cooling with ethyl chloride (chloroethane) constitutes a container holding liquid ethyl chloride under pressure. A valve attached to the container hermetically seals the container in a first mode of operation. A second mode of operation of the valve is affected by finger pressure to emit a divergent fluid stream of ethyl chloride. The method of topical anesthesia using the apparatus constitutes positioning the surface area to be anesthetized at a distance from a divergent fluid stream of ethyl chloride such that a substantial portion of that area will subtend the divergent stream to provide faster and more uniform cooling than the non-divergent ethyl chloride stream of the prior art.
Method Of Treating Peripheral Neuropathies Of The Feet And Legs
US Patent:
5665360, Sep 9, 1997
Filed:
Sep 15, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/528999
Inventors:
Richard H. Mann - Delray Beach FL
International Classification:
A61K 3578, A61K 39385
US Classification:
4241951
Abstract:
Peripheral neuropathies associated with Diabetes Mellitus and infection with the AIDS virus may be treated effectively by the periodic topical application of a composition containing capsicum oleoresin as the active ingredient. The oleoresin is incorporated into a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier to form a lotion, ointment, cream or the like. When applied to the skin of the affected area at least daily, pain and burning associated with the neuropathy become reduced in severity or eliminated.
