Assignee:
Microsoft Corporation - Redmond WA
International Classification:
G06F 17/30
US Classification:
715746000, 707010000
Abstract:
An improved user interface is provided for displaying selectable software functionality controls of a database application. When a task-based functionality tab is selected from the user interface, selectable functionality controls provided by the associated database application for performing aspects of a task related to the selected tab are presented in a ribbon-shaped user interface above a workspace in which a user is entering or editing data. Upon selection of a different task-based functionality tab, the presentation of functionality controls associated with the first task is removed, and selectable functionality controls associated with the second selected task-based functionality tab are presented in the user interface. The selectable functionality controls presented in the user interface are grouped into logical groupings for more efficient utilization. An extensibility model is provided for allowing users to develop and use customized user interfaces and to allow utilization of legacy user interfaces.

Enhanced E911 Location Information Using Voice Over Internet Protocol (Voip)

US Patent:
2011014, Jun 23, 2011
Filed:
Mar 1, 2011
Appl. No.:
12/929992
Inventors:
Richard Dickinson - Seattle WA, US
Roger Marshall - Auburn WA, US
Steven P. Helme - Shoreline WA, US
International Classification:
H04W 4/22
US Classification:
370328
Abstract:
An E-9-1-1 voice-over-IP (VoIP) solution is provided wherein a 911 call from a wireless VoIP device is routed directly to the correct Public Safety Answer Point (PSAP) via dedicated trunks, together with correct location information and call-back number. VoIP gateways are implemented locally, at least one per LATA, and accept VoIP packetized data inbound, and convert it to standard wireline voice calls. Calls are routed to an IP address at the VoIP gateway, which then egresses the call to a voice port at a selective router. Dedicated voice trunks (CAMA, SS7, FG-D) are installed between each local VoIP gateway and appropriate selective routers. An Automatic Location Identification (ALI) database is provisioned with ESRKs dedicated for VoIP use. TCP/IP circuits may be established between some or all of the various local VoIP gateways.

Cellular Phone Tracking Scope

US Patent:
2007012, May 31, 2007
Filed:
Aug 21, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/506830
Inventors:
Richard Dickinson - Seattle WA, US
International Classification:
H04Q 7/20
US Classification:
455456100
Abstract:
A cellular phone tracking scope tracks and visually maps the location and movement history of cellular phones in one or more cellular networks in a region of interest. The tracked cellular phones include detection and tracking of the location (latitude/longitude) of those that are not in use. With proper authorization, specific telephone numbers may be tapped, providing the ability to track an entire universe of cell phones by simultaneously displaying all phones within a specific boundary on a “tracking scope” similar to a radar scope. The tracked cellular phones that are displayed may be filtered, e.g., to show which cellular phones are those of a friend, which are those of a foe, and/or which are those of an unknown person or device. The location and phone number of desired phones can be displayed.

Emergency Alert For Voice Over Internet Protocol (Voip)

US Patent:
2011001, Jan 27, 2011
Filed:
Sep 3, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/923142
Inventors:
Richard Dickinson - Seattle WA, US
Don Mitchell - Bellevue WA, US
Jonathan Croy - Seattle WA, US
International Classification:
H04L 12/66
US Classification:
370352
Abstract:
A voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) positioning center (VPC) is implemented in configuration with support from a text-to-voice module, emergency routing database, and VoIP switching points (VSPs) to allow a public safety access point (PSAP) or other emergency center to effectively communicate the nature of an emergency alert notification and the area of notification to the VoIP positioning center (VPC). The inventive VPC in turn determines which phones (including wireless and/or VoIP phones) are currently in the area for notification, and reliably and quickly issues the required warning to all affected wireless and VoIP phones.
