Training Device For Baseball Batter And Method Therefor

US Patent:
5082262, Jan 21, 1992
Filed:
Jul 15, 1991
Appl. No.:
7/729616
Inventors:
Richard D. Sanchez - Miami FL
International Classification:
A63B 6900
US Classification:
273 26R
Abstract:
The training device for improving a baseball batter's swing includes a forward foot actuated switch which is normally open but is closed when the baseball batter takes the short forward foot step during the batter's swing. A wrist movement switch in one embodiment is mechanically linked to a wrist strap on the aft or rearward wrist of the batter. The wrist switch is normally closed and is subsequently opened due to the swinging motion of the wrist during the batter's swing movement. An alarm system is coupled to the foot switch and the wrist switch and further includes, in one embodiment, an audible alarm device which is activated thereby issuing an alarm upon a predetermined sequential movement of the batter's forward foot and wrist during the swing movement. The predetermined sequential movement is the batter's short step, that closes the foot switch, prior to the batter's swinging of the wrist. Movement of the wrist during the bat swing opens the wrist switch and deactivates the alarm.

Angle Activated Training Device For Golfers

US Patent:
6001023, Dec 14, 1999
Filed:
Sep 23, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/935431
Inventors:
Richard D. Sanchez - Miami FL
Gunther H. Steen - Miami FL
International Classification:
A63B 6936
US Classification:
473217
Abstract:
The angle activated training device, in one embodiment, is worn on the backside of a golfer's rearward shoe. In another embodiment, the training device is mounted onto the shaft of a golf club. The shoe device includes a compact container no larger than the backside of a golfer's shoe. The container is mounted on to the shoe via a clip-on mechanism. The container includes, in its interior, a power source, a control switch, an alarm consisting of either a vibratory alarm or an audible alarm and an angle activated switch. Since these items are electrically coupled together, when the control switch is closed, a vibratory or an audible alarm is issued when the backside of a golfer's shoe is in horizontal position at a final finish position of a golfer's strike. The angle activated training device mounted on the shaft of a golf club includes the same electrical components but the alarm is issued when the club passes through one of at least two horizontal positions when the club is properly swung by a golfer. In another embodiment, the angle activated device on the shaft of a golf club issued alarms when the device passes through each of two predetermined angular positions of the club.

Golf Swing Training Device And Method

US Patent:
5672115, Sep 30, 1997
Filed:
Aug 23, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/702263
Inventors:
Richard D. Sanchez - Miami FL
Gunther H. Steen - Miami FL
International Classification:
A63B 6936
US Classification:
473216
Abstract:
The golf swing training device includes a position sensing unit, a tee mounted on a tee platform and a visual and audio response unit. A taut, movable cord is attached to the hip of the golfer and to the position sensing unit. The position sensing unit generates forward, rearward and fore-strike position signals based upon a forward optimal position, a rearward optimal position and an excessive forward position of the hip of the golfer. This excessive forward hip position is preferable immediately prior to striking the ball and corresponds to the fore-strike position signal. The visual and audio response unit, located adjacent the tee platform, visually indicates to the golfer when his or her hips exceed the forward optimal position, and the rearward optimal position. These are negative feedback signals. The method includes providing a taut, movable cord attached to the hip of the golfer, sensing the forward and rearward movement of the hip based upon the position of a reference point on the cord and with respect to a fixed, neutral position, generating a first and a second visual signal to the golfer when the golfer's hips respectively move beyond a forward optimal position and a rearward optimal position, and generating an audible signal when the golfer's hips move beyond an excessive forward position indicating an ideal hip position immediately prior to striking the ball.
