Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed for providing memory security override protection for improved manufacturability of information handling systems. A security authentication system is added to a software driven security override signal for unlocking programmable memory circuitry, such as flash memory, according to security protection techniques associated with the Intel AMT (Active Management Technology) architecture. This security authentication system disclosed requires authentication of software security override requests before they are allowed. More particularly, the systems and methods disclosed add specific BIOS (Basic Input Output System) code to check the security override status and the software security override request signals on boots of the computer system to make sure these requests are not coming from rogue elements within the computer system. If the authentication is validated, then the programmable memory circuitry is unlocked on the next boot of the system to allow for reprogramming.

Abstract:
Bus numbering management for an information handling system, such as a personal computer, is provided by interfacing one or more selectively hidden devices with one or more buses through either a hardware or software implementation. If an inactive bus becomes active, then disabling of a selectively hidden device interfaced with another active bus provides a bus number to the newly active bus. For instance, if a graphics capability is added to a computer system through a PCI bus, a PCI bridge associated with a second PCI bus is disabled so that the PCI bus number for the portion of the second PCI bus between the chipset of the computer system and the PCI bridge is available for use as the PCI bus number for the PCI bus associated with the graphics capability. The PCI bus number for the portion of the second PCI bus between the PCI bridge and existing peripheral devices is available for use for both portions of the second PCI bus. Thus, peripheral devices associated with the second PCI bus will continue to be recognized by the operating system as associated with the same PCI bus number.

Abstract:
A system and method is disclosed for managing the access to GPIO ports that are coupled to input pins of devices in the computer system. Access commands directed to a GPIO port are monitored. When an access command is detected, an interrupt is issued and an interrupt handler determines if the access command is authorized. If the command is authorized, the interrupt handler completes the access command and returns control to the software program that issued the access command. If the command is not authorized, the command is prevented from reaching the GPIO and the access attempt is logged. The GPIO ports that are monitored may be those GPIO ports that are coupled to an input or enable pin of a sensitive hardware component within the computer system.
