Dr. Long works with patients individually to help them manage their medical conditions - and considers her role to be a team player and coach. She often will give options to treatment, and gives reasons for choosing one over another - and lets the patient decide which treatment they're more comfortable with. If she strongly believes one treatment option is best, she will tell this to the patient. She does a lot of teaching with patients as well - will explain what medications do, and what different medical conditions can do to the body. She has been described by some of her prenatal patients as a doctor who has a "midwife approach" to both pregnancy and delivery care. Regarding childhood immunizations, she will not give vaccines that are grown in cell lines that come from aborted fetal tissue (e.g., Hepatitis A, MMR, Varicella, Shingles).
