US Patent:

Filed:
Feb 21, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/078658
Inventors:
Forrest Smith - Richmond VA, US
Raymond Lindsay - Charlottesville VA, US
International Classification:
A61K031/46, A01N037/18, A61K031/16
US Classification:
514/304000, 514/630000, 514/601000
Abstract:
The efficacy of amide- and ester-linked local anesthetics is increased by administering methanesulfonamide compounds (for example, ibutilide and sotalol) as adjuvants with the local anesthetics. The effectiveness of these compounds as adjuvants is further increased by the concomitant administration of epinephrine. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising an amide- and ester-linked local anesthetic and a methanesulfonamide compound, which may further include epinepherine, are also provided.
