Agitator For Orbital Agitation

Agitator For Orbital Agitation

US Patent:
5988869, Nov 23, 1999
Filed:
Jul 29, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/124497
Inventors:
Jeffrey Bruce Davidson - Burlington NJ
Ilya Feygin - Mountainside NJ
Raymond Fredrick Gastgeb - Doylestown PA
Assignee:
Pharmacopeia, Inc. - Princeton NJ
International Classification:
B01F 1100
US Classification:
366208
Abstract:
An agitator capable of generating complex mixing motions is described. In some embodiments, an agitator in accordance with the present teachings includes a movable assembly that is suspended, via several resilient supports, from a frame. The movable assembly receives a vessel containing a material(s) to be agitated. The movable assembly advantageously includes spaced upper and lower plates having a rotatably-supported member disposed therebetween. The mass of the rotatably-supported member is asymmetrically distributed about its rotational axis. A drive force, such as a directed air flow, which may be used in conjunction with a belt drive mechanism, causes the rotatably-supported member to rotate. Due to the asymmetric mass distribution of the rotatably-supported member, force is non-uniformly applied to resilient supports such that, at any given time, some of such resilient supports are subjected to a compressive force while other resilient supports are placed under tension. The particular resilient supports that are subjected to the compressive force change as a function of the rotation of the rotatably-supported member, thereby placing the movable assembly in orbital motion and agitating the material(s) within the vessel disposed thereon.

Piezoelectric Phase Locked Loop Circuit

Piezoelectric Phase Locked Loop Circuit

US Patent:
4841256, Jun 20, 1989
Filed:
Oct 20, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/110260
Inventors:
Raymond F. Gastgeb - Doylestown PA
Assignee:
Pennwalt Corporation - Philadelphia PA
International Classification:
G01F 2322, G01L 116, H03L 708
US Classification:
331 25
Abstract:
A structural member having a piezoelectric transmitter film and a piezoelectric receiver film adhered thereto. The transmitter film produces a vibration upon activation by a voltage controlled oscillator which forms part of a phase-lock loop circuit. The vibrations of the structural member generate electric signals on the receiver film, which feed into a phase comparator. The other input of the phase comparator is the output signal of the voltage controlled oscillator. The phase comparator will output a dc signal proportional to the difference in phase between the two signals. When the structural member becomes damped, the phase comparator will go into saturation, thereby producing a voltage which can activate an alarm signal or other device.

Dual Direction Switch

Dual Direction Switch

US Patent:
5034648, Jul 23, 1991
Filed:
Oct 31, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/429381
Inventors:
Raymond F. Gastgeb - Doylestown PA
Assignee:
Atochem North America, Inc. - Philadelphia PA
International Classification:
H01L 4108
US Classification:
310330
Abstract:
A piezo film switch comprises a cantilever with a pair of layers, including a piezo film layer and a flexible, backing layer laminated thereto. The piezo film layer produces a positive or negative output pulse, depending upon a direction of deflection of the cantilever. Interface circuitry coupled to the piezo film layer is powered by the output pulses and provides "pseudo contact closures" which emulate the operation of a mechanical switch.

Synchronized Sound Producing Amusement Device

Synchronized Sound Producing Amusement Device

US Patent:
4904222, Feb 27, 1990
Filed:
Apr 27, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/186519
Inventors:
Raymond F. Gastgeb - Doylestown PA
Edward Tom - Philadelphia PA
Assignee:
Pennwalt Corporation - Philadelphia PA
International Classification:
A63H 500
US Classification:
446405
Abstract:
An amusement device is disclosed which contains a signal generator attached to a flexible member. When the flexible member is repeatedly waved, an oscillatory electrical signal is produced by the signal generator and supplied to a sound generator which produces sound which synchronously varies with the repeated flexure of the member caused by the waving action. The sound generator produces a first tone with respect to the oscillatory electrical signal and a second tone when the frequency of the oscillatory electrical signal exceeds a predetermined value.

Vibration Sensing Apparatus

Vibration Sensing Apparatus

US Patent:
4870868, Oct 3, 1989
Filed:
Apr 27, 1988
Appl. No.:
7/186843
Inventors:
Raymond F. Gastgeb - Doylestown PA
Edward Tom - Philadelphia PA
Assignee:
Pennwalt Corporation - Philadelphia PA
International Classification:
G01N 2900
US Classification:
73649
Abstract:
A sensing device is disclosed which produces a response when the point of impact between an object and a member occurs at a preselected location on the member. When the member vibrates after being impacted by the object, an oscillatory electrical signal is produced by a piezoelectric sensor. Appropriate circuitry is provided for analyzing the oscillatory electrical signal and for producing a response if the object impacted the member at the preselected location. The sensing apparatus is particularly useful in athletics for determining whether a game object contacted the athletic instrument at its "sweet spot".

Impact Zone Detection Device

Impact Zone Detection Device

US Patent:
5336959, Aug 9, 1994
Filed:
Dec 11, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/990359
Inventors:
Kyung-Tae Park - Berwyn PA
Raymond F. Gastgeb - Doylestown PA
Assignee:
The Whitaker Corporation - Wilmington DE
International Classification:
H01L 41113
US Classification:
310328
Abstract:
A device for determining which zone on a target has been struck by an object. The device is made of a frame, and a flexible support means which is mounted on the frame, and is disposed in the path of a moving object. A transducer made of piezoelectric film, coated with a conductive coating on each of its surfaces to form electrodes, is mounted on the flexible surface. Attached to the electrodes of the transducer are leads which transmit electrical pulses to a signal processing unit. An object striking the target produces an electrical pulse which is translated by the signal processing unit and which determines the zone on the target which was struck by the object.
