US Patent:
7606191, Oct 20, 2009
Filed:
May 1, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/415317
Inventors:
Jeremy R. Breau - Kansas City MO, US
Ray R. Doerr - Gardner KS, US
Dan Durig - Olathe KS, US
Robert C. Lamb - Blue Springs MO, US
Arun Santharam - Olathe KS, US
Assignee:
Sprint Spectrum L.P. - Overland Park KS
International Classification:
H04Q 7/00, H04L 12/28
US Classification:
370328, 370400
Abstract:
Methods and systems are provided for secure Mobile-IP traffic traversing network address translation (NAT). A virtual-private-network (VPN) tunnel extending between the mobile node and the home agent is established, wherein the home agent comprises a VPN function. Establishing the VPN tunnel comprises (i) the mobile node communicating with the home agent at a public address of the home agent via a private network, a NAT device, and a public network and (ii) the home agent assigning the mobile node a first public address. The mobile node is registered with the home agent. Registering the mobile node comprises (i) the mobile node communicating via the VPN tunnel with the home agent at the public address of the home agent and (ii) establishing the first public address as a home address for the mobile node for, for example, purposes of Mobile-IP communication.

Dynamic Overflow Pool Allocation

US Patent:
8189473, May 29, 2012
Filed:
Jul 9, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/775016
Inventors:
Jeremy R. Breau - Kansas City MO, US
Ray R. Doerr - Gardner KS, US
Frederick C. Rogers - Olathe KS, US
Assignee:
Sprint Communications Company L.P. - Overland Park KS
International Classification:
H04L 12/26
US Classification:
370235, 370412, 370429
Abstract:
Computer-readable media, systems, and methods for dynamic overflow pool allocation are described. In embodiments, a new session registration request is monitored for and, upon receiving the new session registration request, it is determined whether an existing pool associated with a home agent has crossed below a minimal threshold. In various embodiments, if it is determined that the existing pool has crossed below a minimal threshold, an overflow is obtained. In various other embodiments, it is determined whether an existing home agent pool has crossed a maximum threshold and, if so, it is determined whether at least one session remains using the overflow pool. In various other embodiments, if no sessions remain using the overflow pool, the overflow pool is returned.
