Method And Composition For Enhancing Pge1 Production In Vascular Endothelial And Smooth Muscle Cells

US Patent:
2005013, Jun 16, 2005
Filed:
Oct 25, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/972528
Inventors:
Pierre Zoldhelyi - Houston TX, US
Qi Liu - Houston TX, US
George Bobustuc - Houston TX, US
James Willerson - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
The Board of Regents of the University of Texas System - Austin TX
The Texas Heart Institute - Houston TX
International Classification:
A61K048/00, A61K031/202
US Classification:
514044000, 514560000
Abstract:
Compositions and methods for gene transfer of cyclooxygenase (COX) isoforms alone or in conjunction with administration of one or more fatty acid substrate for the COX isoform (e.g., dihommo-γ-linoleic acid (DGLA)) are disclosed. Methods for enhancing synthesis of the prostaglandins E(PGE) and prostacyclin (PGI), without marked local production of pro-inflammatory prostaglandin E(PGE) are also disclosed. The compositions and methods are valuable for protection of vascular conduits, kidney function, airway patency, and renal, cardiac, and other allografts, and promoting increased vascular flow, mucus secretion and bicarbonate secretion as protective factors against gastric and duodenal ulcers.

Mesodermal-Like Cell Population For Treating Ischemia In Mammals

Mesodermal-Like Cell Population For Treating Ischemia In Mammals

US Patent:
8617538, Dec 31, 2013
Filed:
Sep 27, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/891406
Inventors:
Pierre Zoldhelyi - Houston TX, US
James T. Willerson - Houston TX, US
Qui Liu - Houston TX, US
Zhi-Qiang Chen - Houston TX, US
Assignee:
Board of Regents of the University of Texas System - Austin TX
International Classification:
A61K 35/28, C12N 5/0789
US Classification:
424 937, 435325
Abstract:
Compositions containing an effective amount of mesodermal-like multipotent mammalian mononuclear cells that express both CD34 and M-cadherin cell surface markers are used for preventing, treating or reducing the severity of tissue ischemia or an ischemia associated disorder in a mammal. Such uses may include repopulating an in vivo site with new myocytes and/or vascularizing an ischemic or adjacent tissue. Detection of the level and/or distribution of CD34/M-cadherin mesodermal-like precursor cells in a mammalian tissue sample is used to diagnose, among other things, whether transplantation of autologous CD34/M-cadherin mesodermal-like precursor cells to an ischemic site is indicated.
