Laser Displacement Measurement System

US Patent:
6100540, Aug 8, 2000
Filed:
Feb 22, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/255114
Inventors:
Alfred D. Ducharme - Tewksbury MA
Peter N. Baum - Chelmsford MA
Assignee:
Visidyne, Inc. - Burlington MA
International Classification:
G01C 308, G01B 1124
US Classification:
25055938
Abstract:
A laser displacement measurement system including a radiation source for transmitting radiation to a target, an R. F. transmitter oscillator for modulating the amplitude of the radiation at a first frequency, a detector for sensing the radiation reflected from the target, an R. F. local oscillator for providing an R. F. signal at a second frequency, a first mixer circuit, responsive to the oscillators for providing a local I. F. signal which is the difference between the first and second frequencies, a second mixer circuit, responsive to the detector and the R. F. local oscillator, for providing a reflected I. F. signal which is the difference between the second frequency and the modulation frequency of the reflected radiation, and a phase detector, responsive to the local and reflected I. F. signals, for detecting a first phase difference between the signals representative of the distance of the target.

Passive, Remote Sensor

US Patent:
7938010, May 10, 2011
Filed:
Oct 18, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/975264
Inventors:
Dennis Peter Villanucci - Chelmsford MA, US
Peter Nicholas Baum - Chelmsford MA, US
Ilya Schiller - Brookline MA, US
Assignee:
Visidyne, Inc. - Burlington MA
International Classification:
G01D 5/32
US Classification:
73655
Abstract:
A passive, remote sensor including an optical subsystem for receiving electromagnetic radiation scattered off a surface. A detector is responsive to electromagnetic radiation received by the optical subsystem and generates a composite signal comprising a DC current component and an AC current component. A filter extracts the DC current component from the composite signal. A light emitting device is driven by the DC current component. A detector is responsive to the light emitting device and is connected to the first detector to subtract at least a portion of the DC component from the composite signal producing a modified signal. An amplifier is responsive to the modified signal detects vibrations of the surface to be detected.

Digital Phase Measuring System And Method

US Patent:
6049297, Apr 11, 2000
Filed:
Nov 19, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/196016
Inventors:
Alfred D. Ducharme - Tewksbury MA
Peter N. Baum - Chelmsford MA
Assignee:
Visidyne, Corp. - Burlington MA
International Classification:
H03M 148
US Classification:
341111
Abstract:
A digital phase measuring system and method for measuring the phase difference between two signals including generating quadrature clock signals for a first reference signal, converting a second measured signal from analog to digital form by sampling the second measured signal using the quadrature clock signals to produce quadrature cartesian samples of the measured signal, and converting the quadrature cartesian samples to polar coordinates to define the polar phase coordinate representative of the phase difference between the two signals.
