Appl. No.:
7/853921
Inventors:
Peter Y. Lee - Canton OH
International Classification:
A61M 2500
US Classification:
604280
Abstract:
A radiopaque marking system for a device meant to be inserted into a body, such as a medical device inserted into a human body, and imaged with an x-ray source includes a tube having a distal end and an outer periphery which can be divided into four quadrants. A first radiopaque marker section is located only in a first quadrant of the body adjacent the distal end thereof. A second radiopaque marker section is located only in a second quadrant of the body adjacent the distal end portion. If desired, the two marker sections can contact each other along at least one corner of the two sections.

Tapered Roller Bearing Capable Of Sustained Operation Without Lubricant Replenishment

US Patent:
4601592, Jul 22, 1986
Filed:
Feb 8, 1984
Appl. No.:
6/578025
Inventors:
Chester F. Jatczak - Canton OH
Peter W. Lee - Canton OH
Peter S. Orvos - Uniontown OH
Assignee:
The Timken Company - Canton OH
International Classification:
F16C 3358, F16C 3336, F16C 3366
US Classification:
384564
Abstract:
A tapered roller bearing has a porous rib ring against which the large ends of its wrought steel tapered rollers bear so that the ring prevents the rollers from being expelled. The rib ring is formed from porous powdered steel that has been compacted to a density of about 70% to 85% of theoretical and then sintered and machined. Thereafter, the machined rib ring is etched to expose the pores at the surface against which the large ends of the rollers bear. Finally, the rib ring is impregnated with oil. Should the bearing lose its normal supply of lubrication, the critical region of contact between the abutment face on the rib ring and the large ends of the rollers will nevertheless be adequately lubricated for a reasonable time by lubricant which escapes from the pores of the rib ring. The cage of the bearing may be piloted by the rib ring and by a ring-like cup insert that is formed in the same manner as the rib ring.

Expandable Intraluminal Vascular Graft

US Patent:
5123917, Jun 23, 1992
Filed:
Apr 27, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/516104
Inventors:
Peter Y. Lee - Canton OH
International Classification:
A61F 206
US Classification:
623 1
Abstract:
An expandable intraluminal vascular graft includes a flexible cylindrical inner tube having a outer periphery and a plurality of separate scaffold member mounted on the outer periphery of the inner tube. The scaffold members are expandable, ring-like and provide circumferential rigidity to the graft. A flexible cylindrical outer tube concentrically encloses the inner tube and the plurality of scaffold members mounted thereon. The graft has a first diameter, which permits intraluminal delivery of the graft into a body passageway having a lumen, and a second expanded diameter, upon the application from the interior of the tube of a radially outwardly extending force. The second graft diameter is dependent on the amount of force applied so that he graft second diameter can be expanded to at least equal an internal diameter of the body passageway lumen. The scaffold members are deformed beyond their elastic limit when the graft is expanded to the second graft diameter.

Catheter System For The Isolation Of A Segment Of Blood Vessel

US Patent:
6176844, Jan 23, 2001
Filed:
May 18, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/080581
Inventors:
Peter Y. Lee - Canton OH
International Classification:
A61M 2900
US Classification:
60410104
Abstract:
A catheter for isolating a segment of blood vessel has a guiding catheter (10) with proximal and distal ends. The guiding catheter (10) has major and minor lumens (12, 14). A first balloon (16) is attached to the guiding catheter (10) at the distal end thereof. The first balloon (16) is connected via the minor lumen (14) to a first inflation port (18) such that as fluid is injected into the first inflation port (18) the first balloon (16) expands. A proximal assembly (20) connected to the major lumen (12) at the proximal end of the guiding catheter (10) has an aspiration port (24) for evacuating the major lumen (12). A guidewire (30) extending through the major lumen includes a hollow tube (32) having proximal and distal ends. A wire (34) with a shapeable core is attached to the distal end of the hollow tube (32) forming a seal therewith. A plug (52) is selectively inserted into the proximal end of the hollow tube (32) forming a seal therewith.

Powder Metal Composite And Method Of Its Manufacture

US Patent:
4721598, Jan 26, 1988
Filed:
Feb 6, 1987
Appl. No.:
7/011751
Inventors:
Peter W. Lee - Canton OH
Assignee:
The Timken Company - Canton OH
International Classification:
B22F 700
US Classification:
419 8
Abstract:
A powder metal composite made up of first and second powder metal bodies assembled in a mold cavity with the bodies separated by a divider ring and with the bodies being in concentric relationship such that the assembled bodies and divider ring can be simultaneously compacted and subsequently simultaneously sintered to form the desired composite metal article. In practicing the method of forming a composite metal article one of the bodies may be selected from a base powder metal and the other body may be selected from a high performance alloy powder metal, and the divider ring may be selected from a low melting point metal such as copper that will dissolve itself into the powders during sintering and enhance mechanical properties of the sintered compact article. The composital metal article may be used as it is if the density for its intended uses is satisfactory, or such article may be further densified by being subjected to an additional hot forging operation with the article sintered thereafter if deemed necessary.

Delivery System For Self-Expanding Stents And Grafts

US Patent:
6183481, Feb 6, 2001
Filed:
Sep 22, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/401599
Inventors:
Peter Y. Lee - Canton OH
William M. Colone - Phoenix AZ
Barbara L. Teeter - Phoenix AZ
William L. Creer - Phoenix AZ
Kevin G. Farl - Phoenix AZ
Assignee:
Endomed Inc. - Phoenix AZ
International Classification:
A61B 1900
US Classification:
606108
Abstract:
A device for disposing a radially self-expanding endoprosthesis in a body lumen. The implantation device includes an elongated catheter having a distal end and an outer surface over which the endoprosthesis is placed a sheath disposed to releasably surround at least a portion of the endoprosthesis, holding the endoprosthesis on the catheter in a radially contracted state, and a flexible elongation release element cooperating with the sheath. The sheath is released, permitting the surrounded portion of the endoprosthesis to expand, by axial withdrawal of the release element.

Tapered Roller Bearing With Pressurized Rib Ring

US Patent:
4571097, Feb 18, 1986
Filed:
Jan 24, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/694441
Inventors:
Peter W. Lee - Canton OH
Gary E. Kreider - Massillon OH
Ronald L. Widner - North Canton OH
Assignee:
The Timken Company - Canton OH
International Classification:
F16C 3366
US Classification:
384469
Abstract:
A tapered roller bearing has a rib ring against which the large ends of the tapered rollers for the bearing bear to prevent those rollers from being expelled from the annular space between the tapered raceways. The rib ring includes a porous, yet rigid, core and a jacket which covers the exposed surfaces of the core, except along an abutment face at which the large end faces of the rollers contact the rib ring. Here the pores of the core are exposed. The core at one of its other faces has a groove and the jacket has a port that opens into the groove. Pressurized oil is directed through the port and into the groove, from which it flows through the pores of the core and emerges at the abutment surface where it reduces friction between the abutment surface and the roller end faces.
