Aerial Terminal For Paired-Conductor And Coaxial-Cable Drop Wires

US Patent:
6096973, Aug 1, 2000
Filed:
Jul 11, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/890736
Inventors:
Theodore E. Kluska - Glen Rock NJ
Ronald Marchisin - Toby Hanna PA
Peter Michaels - Randolph NJ
Andrew Schwartz - Morisstown NJ
Anthony R. Tancreto - Brooklyn NY
Assignee:
Lucent Technologies Inc. - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
H01R 1346
US Classification:
174 60
Abstract:
The aerial terminal has a tray assembly having zero, one, or more holes for paired-conductor drop wires, as well as one or more converter holes for converters (e. g. , baluns), each of which allows signals over an additional conductor pair to be converted and sent through a coaxial-cable drop wire. The tray assembly enables the aerial terminal to be used to distribute to customers both communication signals and broadband signals carried by a multi-wire distribution cable. In a preferred embodiment, the tray assembly of the present invention is designed to replace the grommet trays of prior-art Flexterm. RTM. 5000 Aerial Terminals by Lucent Technology, Inc. , that are already in service, without disturbing any of the connections between the distribution cable and the terminal block of the existing aerial terminal.

The door has a first gasketed section to provide a first area of the cabinet with an airtight seal for protecting components housed therein from the outside environment. This first section of the door also includes a multi-point compression latch. The door has a second ungasketed section which ventilates gases around its unsealed perimeter from a second area of the cabinet housing batteries. This second section of the door includes a slam latch that is automatically engaged when the compression latch on the first door section is engaged.

Mounting Tree For Power Transfer Devices Used In Hybrid Fiber/Coaxial Systems

US Patent:
6122179, Sep 19, 2000
Filed:
Jun 29, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/106398
Inventors:
Edward C. Eardley - Piscataway NJ
Alfred W. King - Mine Hill NJ
Eric M. Lington - Loosdrecht, NL
Peter A. Michaels - Randolph NJ
Gerrit M. Moesbergen - Woudenberg, NL
Assignee:
Lucent Technologies Inc. - Mountainside NJ
International Classification:
H02B 104
US Classification:
361825
Abstract:
A mounting tree for power transfer devices such as those used in hybrid fiber/coaxial systems. The mounting tree is installed inside an outdoor cabinet housing the power transfer devices. The mounting tree is located in a corner of the cabinet that is partially exposed to the outside environment. An intermediate mounting bracket is used to attach the mounting tree to the cabinet. The intermediate mounting bracket is permanently installed near the aforementioned corner such that the power transfer devices may be installed on the mounting tree before the tree is attached to the intermediate mounting bracket inside the cabinet.
