Abstract:
This limb sleeve is a splashproof sleeve that is donned on the limbs. The sleeve is made from a hydrophobic material which absorbs moisture and perspiration on the skin and also repels moisture from the outside. The sleeve utilizes a unique silicone seal which is able to conform to any contour and is adjustable. One seal is sewn to each end of the protective sleeve to provide a splashproof closure between the limb and sleeve. The longitudinal ends of the sleeve are held in place by a hook and loop fastener. The patient can either wrap the sleeve around the limb and secure the longitudinal ends with the hook and loop fastener or partially fasten the large end of the sleeve and draw the sleeve over the limb until the sleeve fits tightly against the limb. Then the longitudinal joint and lower seal is fastened using the hook and loop fastener. Bathing, weather, and sweating are the primary sources of moisture.
