I'm grateful to be part of an organization dedicated to the welfare of children. In addition to seeing patients, I like finding ways to improve our patient experience and health care delivery. Years ago, there was a young boy in the ICU where I used to work. The family was frustrated because there were breakdowns in communication with the staff. We had a team meeting. Afterwards, the father thanked me. He wasn't thanking me for making the diagnosis, but for listening to him. That stuck with me.
