Filed:
Nov 7, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/011262
Inventors:
Paul H. Norton - Trumbauersville PA
John R. Wolfe - Selinsgrove PA
Assignee:
West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc. - Lionville PA
International Classification:
B65B 104
US Classification:
141329, 604187, 604411
Abstract:
A syringe safety device coupling between a vial and a syringe, including a tubular connector having a first axial end receiving the vial and a second, opposing axial end releasably receiving a syringe. The tubular connector encloses a sliding joint having opposing open axial ends and a passageway between the ends. A first sliding joint end is adapted to engage a syringe needle. A second sliding joint end is configured to releasably engage a needle receiver. The syringe is releasably removable from the sliding joint after fluid coupling with the vial through the sliding joint, without removal of the needle or the sliding joint from the connector, which captures the needle with the sliding joint in the connector. The first end of a joint includes a receiver, adapted to releasably receive a removable syringe needle, and a mount, adapted to releasably receive a releasable needle receiver of a syringe.

Transfer System For Transferring Objects Into A Barrier Isolator

US Patent:
5715659, Feb 10, 1998
Filed:
Feb 3, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/794029
Inventors:
Paul H. Norton - Trumbauersville PA
Assignee:
The West Company, Incorporated - Lionville PA
International Classification:
B65B 5500
US Classification:
53492
Abstract:
A transfer system for transferring objects into a barrier isolator is provided. The transfer system includes a port opening located in a barrier wall to provide access to an isolated space. A port barrier film is sealingly located over the port opening, with the port barrier film having a first, decontaminated side which faces the isolated space and a second side which is exposed. A container adapted to hold the objects to be delivered through the port opening and into the isolated space is provided. A container barrier film is sealingly engaged to the container opening such that decontaminated objects sealed within the cavity in the container remain decontaminated. The container barrier film has a first, decontaminated side which faces the cavity and a second exposed side. The container barrier film is positioned adjacent to the port barrier film, and a parting and sealing element, located within the isolated space is adapted to part the container and port barrier films to form a transfer opening having edges in the port and container barrier films and to simultaneously seal together and decontaminate the edges of the port and container barrier films such that the exposed and potentially contaminated second sides of the port and container barrier films are locked together and remain isolated from the isolated space.

International Classification:
A61L 220, B65B 5510
US Classification:
422294
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a combination container for holding sterilized elements and a sterilizable transfer port for transferring the sterilized elements into an isolation system having a wall. The container includes a flexible bag defining a cavity containing a plurality of the sterilized elements. The container also includes a collar which has an interior surface defining a bore extending through the collar. The bag is secured to the collar with the opening in registry with the bore. A removable seal is movable between a first position where the seal initially extends across the bore to prevent elements from being removed from the cavity and to maintain the sterility of the elements and a second position where the seal is moved from the first position to access the cavity such that the elements are removable from the cavity through the opening and the bore. A transfer port extends through the wall of the isolation system and includes a first end, a second end and a conduit extending between the first and second ends. The collar is in releasable complementary, sealed engagement with the transfer port.
