Circuit Switching System For Interconnecting Logical Links Between Packet Switching Networks

Circuit Switching System For Interconnecting Logical Links Between Packet Switching Networks

US Patent:
5014266, May 7, 1991
Filed:
Jun 26, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/544083
Inventors:
Bruce M. Bales - Louisville CO
Paul E. Miller - Northglenn CO
Assignee:
AT&T Bell Laboratories - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
H04Q 1104, H04M 1100
US Classification:
370 601
Abstract:
A circuit switching system for interconnecting end point systems, such as packet switches, compressed voice concentrators, or data multiplexers, by allowing multiple logical links on each logical channel. The circuit switching system is connected to the end point system by a number of communication facilities with each facility having a plurality of logical channels. For packet switches, the circuit switching system is responsive to a first request to establish a first logical link on a logical channel to a packet switch and is responsive to a second request for another logical link to that packet switch to establish a second logical link on the same logical channel. The circuit switching system is responsive to a third request for establishing a logical link to another packet switch on the same logical channel for denying this request and for negotiating another logical channel.

Communication System For Providing Business Communication Features To Cellular Mobile Telecommunication Customers

Communication System For Providing Business Communication Features To Cellular Mobile Telecommunication Customers

US Patent:
4680786, Jul 14, 1987
Filed:
Oct 1, 1985
Appl. No.:
6/782312
Inventors:
Robin C. Baker - Boulder CO
Steven E. Brown - Arvada CO
John R. Lothrop - Longmont CO
Roman Lozyniak - Westminster CO
Paul E. Miller - Northglenn CO
Assignee:
AT&T Company - Holmdel NJ
AT&T Information Systems Inc. - Holmdel NJ
International Classification:
H04M 100
US Classification:
379 60
Abstract:
The subject communication system is an improved cellular mobile telecommunication system which provides business communication features to cellular mobile telecommunication customers. This is accomplished by using a business communication system as the switch element in the mobile telecommunication office. The master-slave relationship between the mobile telecommunication controller and the system processor that is found in the prior art is replaced by a peer-peer relationship. The mobile telecommunication control functions are handled by the mobile telecommunication controller while the call processing/connection control functions are handled by the system processor. Thus, the existing business communication call processing software can be used directly and any new business communication service provided by the business communication system is also available to the cellular mobile telecommunication customer. The mobile unit is now a "mobile office" and it is treated as any other business communication station set.

Wireless Access Telephone-To-Telephone Network Interface Architecture

Wireless Access Telephone-To-Telephone Network Interface Architecture

US Patent:
5305308, Apr 19, 1994
Filed:
Oct 29, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/968559
Inventors:
Michael J. English - Aurora CO
Charles Y. Farwell - Denver CO
Michael L. Hearn - Broomfield CO
Richard M. Heidebrecht - Boulder CO
David M. Kissel - Boulder CO
Paul E. Miller - Northglenn CO
Richard D. Miller - Northglenn CO
Alan S. Mulberg - Boulder CO
Michael A. Smith - Westminster CO
Douglas A. Spencer - Boulder CO
John S. Thompson - Boulder CO
Richard A. Windhausen - Westminster CO
Assignee:
AT&T Bell Laboratories - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
H04Q 702
US Classification:
370 321
Abstract:
A wireless-access communications system, such as a CDMA cellular radio-telephone system (FIG. 2), comprises a packet-switched communications network (202, 207, 201) that interconnects cells (base stations; 202) with each other and with the public telephone network (100). Traffic of individual calls is packetized, and packet-bearing frames (300 in FIG. 7) of a plurality of calls are then statistically multiplexed and frame-relayed through the network to yield the high capacity, efficiency, and speed of traffic transport and handoff required for a CDMA cellular system. At each call processing unit (264 in FIG. 5), individual calls are handled by individual service circuits (602 & 612) which perform speech-processing functions such as coding and decoding, tone insertion, and echo cancellation, and packet-to-circuit-switched-PCM traffic conversion. Processors (602) adapt call processing unit timing to compensate for asynchrony between cells and call processing units and variations in call path transmission delays. Cell-to-cell communications, fixed call path addressing, and packetized control message transfers ensure that the same service circuit handles a call through even multiple soft handoffs (FIGS.

Isdn Codeset Conversion

Isdn Codeset Conversion

US Patent:
5062108, Oct 29, 1991
Filed:
Sep 29, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/414987
Inventors:
Bruce M. Bales - Louisville CO
Rebecca J. McGillin - Broomfield CO
Paul E. Miller - Northglenn CO
Assignee:
AT&T Bell Laboratories - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
H04J 312, H04J 324
US Classification:
3701101
Abstract:
In a telecommunication switching system, an apparatus for automatically converting ISDN codeset and codepoint protocol in messages transmitted to the telecommunication switching system from a plurality of other telecommunication switching systems each using a diffrent ISDN codeset and codepoint protcol than the telecommunication switching system to identify the same data information. All telecommunication switching systems are interconnected by data channels. Further, the apparatus is responsive to another ISDN message generated by the telecommunications switching system for transmission to another one of the plurality of telecommunication switching systems to convert the codeset and codepoint protocol of the other message to the codepoint and codeset protocol of the other one of the plurality of telecommunication switching systems. The conversions are performed by using sets of conversion tables each identified with an ISDN data channel, and the identity of the data channel is used to select which set of tables is to be used to convert a codeset and codepoint protocol.
