Filed:
Oct 23, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/546631
Inventors:
Kevin D. Carpenter - Tequesta FL
John D. Wiedemer - Wellington FL
Paul A. Smith - Palm Beach Gardens FL
Assignee:
United Technologies Corporation - Hartford CT
International Classification:
F01D 1118
US Classification:
415135
Abstract:
A shroud for a rotor assembly disposed within a case is provided. The shroud includes suspension apparatus, a control ring, and a blade outer air seal. The suspension apparatus is disposed between the control ring and the case. The control ring includes a body and a first attachment mechanism. The blade outer air seal includes a second attachment mechanism. The first and second attachment mechanisms cooperate to secure the blade outer air seal to the control ring.

Uniform Cooling Film Replenishment Thermal Liner Assembly

US Patent:
5265409, Nov 30, 1993
Filed:
Dec 18, 1992
Appl. No.:
7/995406
Inventors:
Paul A. Smith - Palm Beach Gardens FL
George J. Kramer - Jupiter FL
Assignee:
United Technologies Corporation - Hartford CT
International Classification:
F02C 700
US Classification:
60 3902
Abstract:
A gas turbine engine liner assembly is disclosed having uniformly spaced rows of cooling orifices oriented perpendicular to the combustion gas flow of the engine. The orifices within each row are spaced equidistant from adjacent orifices within the same row, thereby providing a uniform, uninterrupted pattern of cooling orifices over the hot side of the liner. The liner is secured to a component of the gas turbine engine by a plurality of fasteners which are secured to the liner without affecting the uniform pattern of the cooling orifices.

Thermal Relief Slot In Sheet Metal

US Patent:
5690279, Nov 25, 1997
Filed:
Nov 30, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/564997
Inventors:
George J. Kramer - Jupiter FL
Paul A. Smith - Palm Beach Gardens FL
Kenneth W. Froemming - Indianapolis IN
Assignee:
United Technologies Corporation - Hartford CT
International Classification:
B64D 3304
US Classification:
2391273
Abstract:
A thermal relief slot is formed by including a lateral slot in each of three overlying sheet metal sheets with the upper and lower slots being in overlying position and the middle slot being axially spaced therefrom and the three sheets being bonded into an integral sheet metal sheet assembly except for the area extending over the relief slots. The edge of the upper and/or lower outer edges of adjacent the relief slots may be chamfered to prevent fraying of the edges. A two sheet assembly includes the relief slots axially spaced and two sheet metal sheets are bonded except for the area including and extending between the two relief slots.

Blade Root Seal

US Patent:
4422827, Dec 27, 1983
Filed:
Feb 18, 1982
Appl. No.:
6/349747
Inventors:
Paul M. Buxe - Lake Park FL
James F. Marshall - Palm Beach Gardens FL
Paul A. Smith - Palm Beach Gardens FL
Assignee:
United Technologies Corporation - Hartford CT
International Classification:
F01D 530
US Classification:
416193A
Abstract:
The neck portion of a rotor blade includes an annular, axially projecting segment integral with the neck and having side edges abutting corresponding segments of adjacent blades to form a segmented annular ring which cooperates with static structure to define an interstage annular seal. Each blade also includes an air dam extending laterally from each side of the root neck and extending radially between the blade platform and the annular seal segment. The air dams of adjacent blades also abut each other to define an annular seal which prevents the axial flow of air across the rotor stage under the blade platforms between the blade root necks. In a preferred embodiment thin strips of silicone rubber are used to seal any gaps between the abutting edges of adjacent blades.
