Lsamp Gene Associated With Cardiovascular Disease

US Patent:
2011007, Mar 24, 2011
Filed:
Aug 19, 2010
Appl. No.:
12/806690
Inventors:
Jeffery M. Vance - Chapel Hill NC, US
Pascal Goldschmidt - Miami FL, US
Elizabeth Hauser - Durham NC, US
William Kraus - Hillsborough NC, US
International Classification:
C12Q 1/68, C12Q 1/02, C12Q 1/60
US Classification:
435 6, 435 29, 435 11
Abstract:
The LSAMP gene can be used for cardiovascular disease risk assessment, in particular Left Main Disease. The genetic risk attributable to LSAMP adds to known cardiovascular disease risk factors. Assessment of risk attributable to LSAMP permits early initiation of preventive and therapeutic strategies. Given the pronounced clinical risk associated with Left Main Disease, such risk assessment should significantly reduce morbidity and mortality.

Abstract:
The invention relates to predicting, or aiding in predicting, which individuals are at risk of developing coronary artery disease. The invention provides a method for identifying an individual who has an altered risk for developing CAD. The invention further relates to methods of reducing the likelihood that a subject will develop CAD. The invention further provides reagents, nucleic acids and kits comprising nucleic acids containing a polymorphism in a CAD-determinative gene.

Expression Analysis Of Coronary Artery Atherosclerosis

US Patent:
2011028, Nov 24, 2011
Filed:
Oct 14, 2009
Appl. No.:
13/124220
Inventors:
David M. Seo - Pinecrest FL, US
Pascal J. Goldschmidt - Miami FL, US
Jennifer Clarke - Miami FL, US
Assignee:
University of Miami - Miami FL
International Classification:
C40B 30/04, C40B 40/06
US Classification:
506 9, 506 16
Abstract:
This invention relates, e.g., to a method for screening a subject for the presence of coronary atherosclerosis, said method comprising measuring the expression level of at least 5 of the genes of Table 2 in a biological sample obtained from said subject, wherein an elevated level of expression of said 5 genes compared to a control level measured in a population of normal subjects is indicative of an increased probability of the subject having significant subclinical coronary atherosclerosis. Methods for deciding on a treatment modality, based on a diagnostic procedure of the invention, are also described, as are kits for carrying out a method of the invention.
